d800 Firmware upgrade be aware

I tried to upgrade my D800E with the new firmware. I waited a few days just to make sure all was well. I charged my battery fully and started updating.
I made however a fatal mistake. I used a wasabi battery. It seems that the new and a transcendant CF card. Both, I read afterwards, not compatible.
I now have a bricked D800E and to make it worse I am in Rio de Janeiro.....not a chance to have it fixed here.
So lesson is:
use Nikon Battery and Sansdisk cards
or you risk getting bricked camera

By the way.... what needs to happen to unbrick it? any one knows?
thanks
ALessandro

Sorry to hear about your misfortune!
I would send the D800E to a Nikon service center.
In the US there are two, one in the east, one in the west.
One can register online and they direct you to the correct one, depending on your address.

Good luck!

I now have a semi-bricked D800E.

I made sure to use a Lexar card and an original battery.

It is only the CF card (any CF card) that no longer works - the SDHC cards work OK.

Annoying for sure but also interesting.
Which card did you use to update the firmware?
I removed the CF and updated with the SDHC card.
No problems so far.

Great tip K-H. I did exactly that and re-updated with the SD card. Now I'm good. The Lexar card goes to the round archive.

Thanks much.
