Here's a certified insane lens; the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6, the "expensive" red ring APO version that sells for $100-150 on the Great Big Auction Site nowadays. I don't know what to say, other than "WOW". 100% crops will follow another day (too much sambuca, grappa etc. after dinner tonight), but here's a sample, unedited except sharpening for web at 80/0.3/0. It's plastic to the core and feels cheap in every possible way except image quality.

I got mine for free with the D700 a couple of years ago and was thinking of giving it away. Not anymore :)

Obviously, subject isolation suffers slightly when the distance to the subject increases, but the price difference to a $6,000 Nikkor 200mm f/2 means suffering too... a lot ;)
