Does Tethering Eat Batteries Faster?

I am tethering my D810 which is currently acting as a film scanner. I notice that it eats through batteries like crazy! I just did one roll of 36 exposures and it is already down 1 notch on the battery indicator.

I am NOT using live view. I am using EFCS in mirror pre release. I am also autofocusing each frame and tethering to LR. Is this normal performance?

maybe the use of USB takes a lot of batterie power on the D810, once my card reader didnt work and so I loaded the pics to the computer via USB cable and there I noticed how fast the batterie got eaten.^^
