We have upgraded to vBulletin 4 Time for a fresh bug list

There are several things that still need to be done to wrap this up and a few known issues that remain on our list.
Please report any issues you may see and we will evaluate.
    Thanks!
    -bob

    Known issues:
Color of icon that indicates that a forum has new posts should have more contrast (perhaps make it red)
    Favicon is wrong
Missing B&H and Amazon ads, missing paypal donate button
Mobile style still default and needs to be styled

Bob great work and folks you see something out of place or not working please post here so Bob can look into it. A big thank you to Bob he took on a major task here and we are excited at the results. Thanks for you patience and as soon as Bob fixes that paypal donate button, maybe think about donating a few bucks to take him out to dinner.

    Hi Bob

Good work! I'm not sure if it's just me but on threads with new replies, the little blue symbol next to the thread title shows up, when clicking on it expecting to go to the latest posts, it just goes to a holding page that says no specified thread or something similar, probably a bug?

Re: We have upgraded to vBulletin 4 Time for a fresh bug list

The new format is not pleasing to my eye, a bit of wasted space with the width of the maroon lines.

In the past when you were at the bottom of the thread you could access a drop down menu to navigate to any section of the forum. That is now gone and having to scroll to the top is a PITA.

Also the likes and now thanks is a little overkill. I am accustomed to change but not sure if this is an upgrade that improves usability.

I have to agree - not really a pleasing format at this point. The bold red is overwhelming and those notices take up a lot of real estate.

Maybe it's just me but I am finding it lot harder to read here. Also the orange boxes in a message list don't seem to add any value and seem to draw too much attention.

I found it a little hard to read. I'm wondering if a font change may do it.

Navigating with a laptop through the site and each page opens with the ads and the 5 statements with notification and available reviews is overkill. Once again the user friendly experience is not there. I can understand the need to have the ads to help recover costs of the site but the notifications should be left to opening page only and not appear when moving through the threads. JMHO.

There is also a right arrow key top right to turn on/off ads and newest images posted

Re: We have upgraded to vBulletin 4 Time for a fresh bug list

For removing the reviews the suggestion you made works, thanks! Thanks

Did not find the 'Right Arrow Key' top right to turn on/off ads. (Ignore, I found the arrows above the B&H ad and Gallery images.)

Taking a few minutes to navigate through the site, it just does not have a good feel. Smaller type and more wasted space and bold lines are distracting. Perhaps I will get used to it, perhaps not. I find the format of the RFF site more pleasing to the eye as an example.

Thanks for your hard work and efforts on continuing to provide updates and a place for us to share knowledge and images. Perhaps there will only be a few people who are affected by the look and feel but I thought I would let you know my experience.

The button that takes you to the next unread message in a forum seems to not work correctly. That may be related to the issue I am having of finding myself logged out each time I return to the forum.

Tick the 'Remember Me' box and it should be fine. Its a common problem with vBulletin (even vb3 ones were prone to it) and they have never been able to provide a fix that works for every user

    Known issues:

    Favicon is wrong
Missing B&H and Amazon ads, missing paypal donate button
Mobile style still default and needs to be styled
    Problems:

    - Font is much smaller and very difficult to read. I have to zoom in twice, which makes photos too large to see. I could see the old site easily with no zooming in.

    - How do I find new things on the threads I'm subscribed to? I used to click "User CP" and get right there

    - The listing of "new things" is cramped and difficult to read.

    - The format is so busy it's hard to see what to read. There's so much infrastructure the eye gets no rest. Bars and separations and such.

I feel lost trying to navigate this new layout. Please post some kind of instructions to tell us what buttons do what.

    thanks

Perhaps easier to administer, but a lot harder to read.

I don't seem to stay logged in.

I do find the new look a bit "thick", maybe fonts as Guy said.
I will live with what ever you guys decide. Its all just a 1st world problem.

I didn't even think about donating till mentioned here.

The button might be there but for me it does nothing when clicked on?

Still too small, far as I'm concerned.

This would be about right ... Arial at about size 3. Although Verdana would image better.

Re: We have upgraded to vBulletin 4 Time for a fresh bug list

It's very hard to parse a list like this:

    - the line spacings shift up and down the list
    - the subject lines are smaller than the "who started it" line
    - there's not enough space between entries in the list, and the separators aren't clear

Too hard to scan and read...

Re: We have upgraded to vBulletin 4 Time for a fresh bug list

Apart from font size as t relates to thread titles; there is no visual separation between the title and the "started by" line under it. Its almost impossible to scan the list of new posts to determine what you want to read without actually reading everything. As others have mentioned, maybe larger font size for the thread title, and both smaller font and less dominant colour for the "started by" line.

Re: We have upgraded to vBulletin 4 Time for a fresh bug list

Font size still too small or maybe the wrong font or both. I suspect this looks different on different monitors but I suspect many reads here has large high rez monitors and that adds to the issues. The fonts before the change worked fine.

As Godfrey stated the list of posts is very hard to read and impossible to scan. Please lose the envelopes in the front of each as they make a quick scan almost impossible.

Just to be clear I am not complaining but trying to help you make it better.

Re: We have upgraded to vBulletin 4 Time for a fresh bug list

Large images have been allowed for weeks, it would be nice to go back to a size limit.

The previous layout that was just replaced was much better visually than the current upgrade. The look and feel is off, the wide bar and separation caused by with the thanks and likes takes up way to much space. It should be on the same gray space (line) as the Reply and Reply with Quote buttons. To be honest I do not get the need for both a thank and a like, one or the other or perhaps both could be removed, it works for a lot of other sites and definitely would save a lot of space.

It does look better than it did 8 hours ago. If the size of the pictures could be limited and the if the spacing between each reply on the thread could be reduced that would be nice.

The thing is with the font size is the default size is actually bigger than vBulletin3’s and the font size being used here prior to the update was still the default. The fact some people are seeing it as being smaller seems to be more an optical illusion

It's not on the bar for reply/quote because while it fits perfectly on larger screens the smaller ones cause the bar to then wrap. I've moved it however to under the signature.

The reason for having both a thanks and a like is they actually represent different things. A like is showing an agreement with a statement wher as a thank is used when so,done has helped you with some advise (either directly or indirectly). The thank is basically there to replace the need for people to make a reply just to say thanks

Just an FYI that the interface does not default to mobile style for mobile devices. I switched it manually for my phone and iPad and it's much nicer.

Yeah the dark version hasn't been uploaded yet so it hasn't been enabled by default at this time. Part of the reason the current mobile looks nicer is its a 'light' theme, Dark site styles almost always look worse because the nature of it being a dark theme means that all the colours have to be bolder. Its why most websites going for a white website and why apple's make MacOS largely white/light grey. Ideally from a usability POV I would have gone with a lighter theme for Desktop as well but a darker theme is better for displaying photos on

    Logged in to forum.
    went to web front page
selected the x on right to clear the new article notifications
seemed to take me back to the front page but logged out
    i logged back in
browser attempted to take me to a page with URL something ending ?action=dismissnotificatios (lost the link on iPad so this is from memory)
blank page in browser - nothing rendered

when I manually re entered GetDPI front page the notifications were gone as expected and I was logged in.

Thanks! Navigating around the site this morning and it appears to look much nicer and easier on they eyes, I do appreciate the effort!

As far as the sizing on images, is there a limit? Some members post very large images which is not an issue when working on a fast network but on others it takes a long time to open a thread. I still would like to see a limit on sizing if possible. If not, I can live with it.

Once again, thanks for all your work!

Dan, I , for one, am in favour of limiting image sizes, but only when it's done properly.
Not the half baked solution we had previously.
Those huge files were downloaded anyway and the actual downscaling was taking place on your device !
    That's just silly.

    NO LIMITS !
    well, sort of ...

Simon, it's not an optical illusion when the vertical height of a capital letter goes from 11 pixels to 7. 😈

How do you switch to mobile style?

I prefer a light theme because my photos are tone and color balanced for a white matte, not a black surround. That's why I put a white matte on the photos I post...

... Just found the mobile switch. Gosh! The light theme and overall layout looks so much cleaner and nicer to use! Its incomeplete but... I wish you'd re-think all this dark gray stuff.
