Thread: Ricoh GX100

Thank you JDavila. I hope you will enjoy your GX100 as much as I do.

I have a small Gorrilapod (http://www.joby.com/) though I don't always carry it with me. That tripod is perfect, small, lightweight, and very flexible. The last photo was made near a trainstation in my hometown (Ede, the Netherlands). Many students leave their bikes at the station and there are hundreds of bikes at that sight.

Thanks Wouter so far I am.

I could never use one of these razors. After he finished with this guy he butchered me, well actually my hair.

Until I get LightZone I am limited to some good pp.

    Re: Ricoh GX100

Slightly OT since it was taken with a GRD2 but it's of a hair salon so I thought it appropriate. It's run and staffed entirely by Japanese.

With what I have learnt recently I would probably do a different conversion, in fact I may do that tonight.

It is great that so many post their pictures. I enjoy very much seeing the photos of other people in the forum. And don't worry, Will. I am sure that you and your GRDII are welcome as well... ;-)

I also have some pictures of hair salons. Here are two of them:

What a great shot! I hope I can get my camera to sing like that one day.

Many moons ago I trained horses, I was probably the only kid from Brooklyn in my Equine class. Barn duty was not fun.

Maybe you better explain that to our European friends, Mr. Ed. Maybe that show never made it over there.

I figured from his quote he was familiar with Mr. Ed's theme song:

A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
and no one can talk to a horse of course
That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed.

Go right to the source and ask the horse
he'll give you the answer that you'll endorse.
He's always on a steady course.
    Talk to Mr. Ed

People yakkity yak a streak and waste your time of day
But Mister Ed will never speak unless he has something to say.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
and this one'll talk 'til his voice is hoarse.
You never heard of a talking horse?
    Well listen to this.
    "I am Mister Ed."

Thank you very much, Sean and Maggie. I'm very honoured.
I enjoy very much taking pictures but as the GX100 is my first camera with manual controls, I have to learn a lot more. So I am very glad about critical inputs.

Yesterday, my brother gave me his Pentax K100d (lucky me!). I am looking foreward to my first SLR experience but I am sure, my GX100 will not be useless at all. Especially for street photography, I like the Ricoh so much...

Chris I like all of these but the first most of all.
Good luck with the K100D, they are very good at hi ISO, do you have a fast lens for it?
The IS works with manual K Mount lenses just fine so picking one up should be very quick and cheap

Thank you very much for your kind words and for telling me about the lenses!
My brother gave me some lenses with the camera and three of them are actually manual lenses from Pentax.

You're welcome. I admire your street photographs. Really excellent work Chris.
In the Netherlands we don't live our lives so much on the street. We only drive cars to get to work.

    Re: Ricoh GX100

    Hello,

I just got my GX100 last week and am exploring its many possibilities. Just as with any new camera, you have to learn how it works best with your style of photography. Actually, you both adapt your working style to the camera and the camera to your ways, if you see what I mean... The GX100 is currently my "always with me" camera (before it was the nice little -but very different- Fuji F30).

Here is a picture I took today that I quite like. I first intended to change it to B&W, but finally I found it worked better desaturated with some colour left in.

More to come as I get more familiar with the quirks and strengths of this little companion...

I love how quiet these cameras are. I wouldn't be able to get in close without being noticed if it was noisy. In the second one her eye's speak volumes.

Right before Christmas, I was diagnosed with cancer. I have had surgery and treatment, and haven't been able to get out and photograph too much. Yesterday, I arrived at the Mayo Clinic (Jacksonville, Florida) before sunrise to have a total body scan (to look for more cancer).

The news was GREAT and now I can move on to the rest of my life!

I'm very glad to hear that news. My best friend was also diagnosed with cancer last year and it has been a long and tough road. All the best.

    Sean,
I'm sorry to hear about your friend. It is a very scary road. I wish a full recovery for your friend.
I was so lucky that mine was found by a fluke. It had already become invasive, so by the time I felt symptoms, it might have been too late. I am very grateful, and I just received the BEST care from the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ and Jacksonville, FL.

The instructions are mildly incoherent. I found it easier to download and then unzip the files, and copy them via a card reader to a newly formatted card - so there can be no uncertainty as to whether the files are in the root or not. Put the card into the camera, then follow the instructions.
