    books again

i swear i'll quit buying them. alas, new ones show up on amazon all the time. just bought these two:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/160...ef=oss_product

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/032...ef=oss_product

the second one on composition. i know composition the great key, yet i'm always disappointed in books about it. the first one by joe mcnally and i'm a fan. with this one you can't go wrong - but i don't know how far.

i still find the best of all books

    http://www.amazon.com/Being-Photogra...4817136&sr=1-1

it's expensive used, but if you have a kindle it's a cheap download - and since it's all writing worth it.

why this book? cause they focus on subject and a passion for it. plus working the site. the technical stuff so easy i don't know why i keep worrying about it. finding the subject always obsesses me. (luckily decayed roses keep coming back.) where does the real passion lie?

    Wayne,
Not sure if you ever saw this but it's a great book.

I know your not really a streetshooter but still a good read.
The 2 books you posted, you already know more than that....

thanks, don. it's wonderful book. i still remember meyerowitz roaming the streets with winograd and his comment about bravo's photos being shamanistic. it's full of insights for all photographers.

yeh, i somehow have to give up on the how-to books! they don't really help me. however i do keep coming back to 'on being a photographer' cause he roots it all in finding passionate subject matter.

yes, i never feel comfortable street-shooting. even though i love the results of it and find your's very resonant and thoughtful. glad somebody's doing it!

    best,

Wayne, maybe instead of buying and reading books....it's time for you to write a book.
Your blog is very thoughtful and interesting. I would imagine you could scrape together a few ideas....

    Re: books again

hi don, thanks for the encouragement. i've been writing ideas and notes all day! what interests me is 'the mind of the photographer'. all kinds of questions come up. for example, in on being a photographer, hurn says almost all the iconic photos taken by professionals in the course of their work. that's interesting to me. also the myths about staging and cropping in such cases. lang's migrant mother severely cropped. bresson's puddle jumper not only cropped but staged three times! he missed the opportunity and asked the guy to jump again. this said, both recognized something.
lots of other thoughts percolating. i doubt if they make a book, but a few notes wouldn't hurt.
