Re: Sony RX100 - getting started

    Hello All,

Two old disused railway tunnels near to where I live, which had been part of the old Dorset & Somerset steam line (closed in 1966), were re-opened at the weekend as part of a cycle/walk way. One is about a mile long and is longest cycle tunnel in GB.

Local bigwigs performed an opening ceremony, and the Samba band played on...

    Nicely abstract kind of shot!

Just being a little nosey... intentionally out of focus, or happenstance...?

    Here's another, shot this afternoon.

Another good one. Two out-of-focus shots on the trot... definitely intentional, and possibly a "style"! (Unless, of course, you're just making a lot of mistakes...)

Hmmmmm..... MW seems to have more than his fair share of the 'bad luck' in that team...

Just a thought: is this shot out-of-focus because it's taken from a TV screen?
If it isn't, then you certainly get around quite a lot...

    Ah, I've been sussed.

It might be a way of image making to put aside 'til one cannot get out and about with ease!

Nevertheless on the way back from Beijing I dropped in to the Indian Cricket League and ended up with this rather ridiculous shot.

"Cricket Ball in Front of the Bangalore Floodlights".

    Great way to photograph clouds.

Shot in 'high contrast mono' mode and a bit of blue added in iPhoto, and not much else really!

I want to jump into the clouds.

Re: Sony RX100 - getting started

    Hello All,

This is the straight stretch of the longest of the 2 recently re-opened tunnels used as cycle/walk way. (Google 'two tunnels greenway' to find out more).

It is a magical experience cycling through the tunnels, and there is even some soft ambient music playing quietly in a few places along the way.

I've cycled it a few times and the route ends at a pub!

This is 3200 ASA, 1/5th @ f4.9 with longest zoom.

    Cheers,

    Gandolfi.

Better Sony RX100 or Lumix DMC-FZ150K for Video?

Hi, I have just read Lumix DMC-FZ150K has the max of score about video. It is the best for the price. In your opinion can I get a better video by RX100 or by Lumix DMC-FZ150K? I mean quality of video image.
    Thanks

Nice set. They look normal as thumbnails. Sort of surprised me to seem them full size. Was that in-camera?

    Thank you, Lloyd,

Yes, this is the in-camera watercolour mode, a fun little naif way of making silk purses out of sow's ears. I find it the best method for photographing through the windows of public transport.

These are from a bus today. The last pic is a portion of the pic before, and is interesting.

    Cheers,

    Gandolfi.

Fine tuning on all these is with iPhoto.

Nice... I think that this effect works better with this type of subject, than with the green landscape type of the previous post.

Another nice set. B&W can be a very satisfying type of photography.

BTW, it looks as though you've been out with the camera just a couple of streets away from where I was born, about three hundred years ago...

Thanks Tim, Yes b/w is fun. Those were done using the in camera Rich-tone Mono mode.

So were you born in Third Avenue. I've only been in this area for 5 years.

Here some close ups-with Nik Col Efex.

Indeed... and you'd need only to find a cafe sporting a suitable shop frontage, with some late-night customers dressed in 1940s attire, and you'd be taking it well beyond "hints"...

Actually, I do like the effect, but I'd like it more if there were control settings. I find it to be too much in most of the shots that I've tried, and I've been left wishing that I could scale it back to say 50%, or even a little lower. I suppose I should just take a normal shot, and try manipulating it in PP to get a similar effect. Perhaps I'll work on that.

I agree I also wish there were some control settings to reduce the watercolour effect a bit.

In the meantime I shall keep looking for the all-night alienation cafe on Desolation Row for that genuine Hopper look.

Here's one more pic for the "A la Recherche..." collection.
