No such luck. The notice in the window says it closed on Wednesday 22nd March, so it may well have been this year.

You'll have to get your Olivetti ribbons elsewhere.

Must have been 2006... that was the last year in which 22nd March fell on a Wednesday. Pity.

    Thank you for various 'likes'.

Some simple close ups. It seems there is different new growth from day to day at the moment.

It is possible to crop a fair amount and use higher ASA with this camera.

    I still shoot jpeg.

    Cheers,

    Gandolfi.

Yes, this little Sony continues to amaze me... while my 5D and assorted lenses sit almost unused. I have fallen to wondering just why I bother to keep them.

I must admit that I still shoot RAW+Jpeg (as a kind of insurance policy), but the Jpeg is almost always perfectly good. Just occasionally, the Raw file helps recover a poor exposure, but in truth, the Raws are largely redundant.

I just worked out the power/weight ratio of this camera to be 83,333 pixels per gram.

These flower pics are only about a fifth or so of the original image area.

That's an interesting way of looking at it! It might be an interesting exercise to carry out the same calculation for a few other cameras...

Would love to, but I've just reached a crucial point in my latest game of 'Pick up Sticks', so I'm rather busy.

Gandolfi, when I first saw that thumbnail photo of yours, I thought it said "Giant Panty Shop". ROFL Perhaps I should have my eyes checked... I guess there could be a giant panty shop though, lol.

    That brings back memories!

It's slightly strange... I would have expected the advertising hoarding to have the same picture that the labels on the bottles had, but no matter - it's still a nice trip down memory lane . Thanks for posting...

These from today, all 80 ASA.

    Lovely whites, always AWB.

Nice image, with lovely words to match.

What is this verse? It seems vaguely familiar, but I'm unable to recall its origin.

Google the 1st line for the lyrics of this fifties song which you're probably too young to remember being played on the BBC Light Programme on an old valve radio!

On youtube you can hear it being sung by Donald Peers

    Ah, those were the days......

Well, I'm very pleased - it appears that I give off a deceptive aura of youthfulness!
However, the sad reality is that I'm old enough to remember the Light Programme... and, of course, the Home Service...

Anyway, I Googled it and found the song. I'm sure that I have heard it before, although I certainly didn't know it very well.

You probably have seen the new upgrade to the RX100 that will be available in a few weeks. Not only does it have a hot shoe, a rotating LCD, but according to IR it is one stop more sensitive than the RX100. Sony has a winner in the RX100, it has a bigger winner in the RX100 II.

The Mark II announcement made Mark I drop in price enough for me to see what all the fuzz is about. It's nice to have more control over your day to day snaps, that were previously taken with an iPhone.

I am not sure about the Rx100ii, based on comparisons from imaging resource, the RX100ii seems to not handle red textures as well as the RX100. Also the RX100 has a much nicer overall natural look. The RX100ii seems to have less noise but also seems to have a "plastic" feel to the image. Thats my opinion, but please feel free to compare and comment too.

gandolfi, sorry to hear this, but glad to see you back in action. Only recently, I was browsing this thread, and found myself wondering why you hadn't been posting... hope you're back to full strength soon (or already).

Looking forward to seeing the results of your RX100 back in full-time action, too!

    Thanks Mazor and Tim,

Health more or less back to normal, but to add to my woes iPhoto went crash and all photos have emigrated to a black hole and now I have to go look for them (they are there somewhere I think). So perhaps a few more days before I'm up and running at full speed!.

    Cheers,

I know it is a bit off topic, but do you use Apple time machine? If you really cannot find the images, you may be able to recover them from a backup.

I wasn't sufficiently confident to look for the lost pics myself so took my iMac to nice Apple shop in Bath called Farpoint Developments and they found and restored my iPhoto library for no charge. Kudos to them.

No Mazor I hadn't set up time machine so my next job is to back up all my pics!!

    Cheers,
