Pureview EOS coming out on July 11. I can't wait. Hopefully the phone would be much more powerful and faster in response. It'll replace my point and shoot

should do, the EOS will have a dual core CPU. Will be interesting if there will be improvements on the camera part of the EOS over the 808.

As the Nokia 1020 is announced now - I just wanted to show what already the old N808 is able to do.

I just read an interesting article on the Lumina 1020. Seems that the sensor is 20% smaller than the one on the 808, and that the lens is inferior.

808 Lens:

F2.4

5 elements, 1 group. All lens surfaces are aspherical

• One high-index, low-dispersion glass mould lens

• Mechanical shutter with neutral density filter

1020 lens:

35mm equivalent focal length: 25mm for 16:9,27mm for 4:3

• F-number: f/2.2

• Mechanical shutter

• System of 6 lenses (5 plastic molded high performance plastic, one high precision glass element)

Maybe those plastic lenses could be wonderful?

Seems the real improvements are the stabilization and the integration into a "real" smart phone. I'd be interested to see a comparison. Placed my pre order with ATT already

the new sensor is Backside illuminated and stabilized. I´m pretty sure the smaller sensor size will not be giving less quality.
The most immanent improvement will be the bigger screen with higher resolution that will enable best focusing - and final:
You can focus the 1020 MANUALLY !!!! Well nor really manually , but with the new Camera Pro app using the focus dialer.

That is cool ! Probably the only smartphone worldwide that I know of.

hmm, likie the idea of a mnaual focus, but hope they will implement automatic zoom in focusing aids like that found on cameras like the Sony NEX 5n.

Good choice - seems to be one of the safest smartphone devices right now (because of Symbian) and if you use Camera Pro you will get 41,5 Mpix images- full sensor. Put the setting to 100% jpg quality and you will end up with files you won´t believe your eyes in !

I have talked to a Nokia specialist recently and he said that Symbian as an opensource system which is now so very well documented does not have any "KNOWN" backdoors as iOS or Android or Win8 do have (as we all know now thanks to Snowden).
So the N808 also has a removable Battery (which the new Phones don´t have anymore) which helps to keep your privacy when you have it switched off and don´t want to betracked (as with the other smartphones the NSA can switch them on remote and spy on you, no matter what you do, without battery -NO WAY !).
So for now I will keep my N808. I also do have the feeling that the larger N808 sensor has a tad less noise than the 1020 samples I have seen.

It´s in the Nokia Store, as you already found out.
you will see it really has great options. Some not even to be found in really expensive DSLR´s.

I needed a new phone, so I had to buy it before it disappeared. The 1020 isn't nearly as cool, oversharpened and oversaturated. The 808 has a fantastic sensor, great colour, amazing detail... D800, eat your heart out :ROTFL:

very nice Picture, Jørgen!
Yes I'm about considering it myself. The Lumia 1020 is bigger, clumsier, and can't take pictures in low light. This one seems to still be the leader of the gang.
And yes it’s about getting hold of it before it disappears.

The 1020 is bigger, but it also sports a much larger higher resolution screen. The phone thickness is considerably thinner than the 808. I think both form factors are clumsy, as there is no dedicated sculpted hand grip, but that is the compromise one has to make in order to have a phone and a camera in one.

The 1020 can take pictures in low light, and will be better than the 808, as it handles higher ISO better than the 808, plus it has optical stabilizer. Where the 1020 fails is at low ISO, where the larger sensor 808 pulls ahead with far better detail, resolution, and low noise.

Yes please get an 808, before they become a rarity. Just love the IQ of the 808, check out these pipes I captured today

no cropping, just conversion to black and white, enjoy the pure pixel resolution and superb corner sharpness!
