This time it had to be

    The highest mountain outside Asia.

Flight time about 40 hrs, before the climb.

Riyadh, Doha, over Africa, across the Atlantic,

São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Mendoza..the way to

Mt. Acacongua...7000 meters. Weather forecast for the

Summit ascent day is snowstorms and high winds. Maybe the

Climb will be aborted due to weather.

    This one over 5500 meters...

40% of sea level air at summit.

She wanted to do this on support of cancer research
    In our country.

    You go grandma.

Re: This time it had to be

    Jorgen, Knorp, Ocean and ceh..

    Thank you guys.

The weather currently is heavy snowstorms and gale force winds decreasing later..hopefully.

I got a few minutes to message with her. They are stuck at second base camp due to severe weather.

We recommend her to come down once weather allows!! Maybe they shall abort

    the summit ascent.

The temperature today is - 21C to -25C. Wind chill factor is far below.

She is finding it tough going. Age is taking its Toll; along with the weather.

But as I mentioned long time ago..she always says ' because it is there '.

Traveler, said the voice, we meet again.

Ayesha looked around the dry and freezingly cold landscape
Around her. Yes, she said. It's been long.

The voice was quiet..paused. You come alone this time.
Yes, she said. The first time I feel alone, she said.

You come to the burial place of the Incas, said the voice.
A place held in highest regard and respect by people of old.
Treat these grounds and the mountain with respect.

Do you have the courage traveler?, asked the voice.

You know I do, she said.

Yes, said the voice. But courage alone does not guarantee success. The voice
Said hesitantly. Courage to be humble at success and unbeaten in defeat?

Why do you say this, she asked.

The voice was quiet. Climbing mountains is just a small
Part of being courageous. Dealing with life, it's ups and downs
With humility and an unbroken spirit is a big part of courage.

    I know, she said.

Let's test you then, said the voice. And remained silent.

she carried a small cam. Put it on a rock. Looked towards the camera.

The mountain looked down on them both.

The winds were bad. Snowstorm was approaching.

She turned and headed up towards the mountain.

She stretched out her hand. There was no one to take it this time around.

She shrugged, and made her way up the mountain..

Ayesha is back home. Sick and with bruises and sprains.

I did not make it she said. Tears in her eyes.

You gave it your best, I consoled her. Let's get you medically fit first.

I am going again, Rayyan. You know that, she said.

I know, I added. But this time you need someone to hold your hand.

She looked at me and smiled. What have you been doing?, she asked.

Practicing photography, I said. Of what, she asked.

Plants, trees, flowers, cityscapes and the like, I answered changing my M lens.

I did not have much time for photography, she said.

There were other things on my mind, she added.

For a moment there, I wondered, why did she go there. The I realised that I would have gone there too, if I could

    Fascinating stuff.

Said to be the driest mountain interns of vegetation. Just rock, gravel, glaciers and cold...

Re: This time it had to be

    Water!!

Drinking water. Obviously one does not carry bottles or drums of water up the mountain.

Glaciers..they are the source for all water for the climbers.

A big caution though. Glacial water is pure water.

You take a drink of it..the least that will happen is severe diarrhea; or worse.

Too much mineral content. You treat it first. Mix it with something; anything. Dilute it. Boil it.

So there, a very important tip for those that want to go climbing high mountains.

This is amazing! I wish I'd discovered this thread earlier... I've been distracted... haven't been around much. My heart goes out to Ayesha for her effort, and my admiration for having even undertaken to start. She is one of my heroes! You both are.

f6cvalkyrie, thank you and all others for your encouragement.

Time to close this thread. Ayesha is back home and after some medical treatment
is back to her usual routines.

It was a wonderful experience. Lovely people. Lovely place. Only too far away
    for a normal trip!!

    Regards.
