    yes, i can understand that. i think photographers (especially b&w) attached to line and excited by it, while painters love patches of color. i'm not sure which has the broader audience.

    for the participants, on the other hand, the b&w photographs may be too 'real' while the painterly approach surprises them and gives them a sense of grandeur.

    i'll have to find out.

    it's interesting. looking at these today the color seems to generalize the people and the event, taking away the specificity. the very arousing nature of the color seems to make looking at the details more difficult.
