New Back light sensor

Sony is presenting its new type of Cmos called Exmor R, it is a backlight sensor. Two cameras coming this fall will have this type of sensor, the WX1 10Mp, IS, zoom lens equivalent to 24-120mm F2.4 ; and the TX1 ultra flat 35-140mm.

It is said to be very promising in high ISO, the first few tests made are enthusiastic, comparing a 3200 Iso to a 800 on a A4 format print.
Sony claim a 6db gain out of the sensor.

But a rumour also says this sensor type could be implemented into a RF body made by Zeiss.... just let you imagine what this could be after !

I can't find it now, but within the past few weeks I read an interview with a Sony engineer who said that at this time they don't foresee being able to expand the backlit sensor beyond compact-camera size because of sensor-heating problems.

Anyone else recall this?

You're right, that was the same quote I had read (although I think I read it somewhere else.) So it was a Panasonic guy rather than a Sony guy. Maybe Sony is more optimistic about being able to apply this technology to larger sensors... but then again maybe it's wishful thinking...
