Say Hello To My Little Friend!

Said in my best Coke throttled, Scarface Tony Montana voice:

"Say Hello to my little friend!"

The "Denizen of the dark" ... "Satan's own Optic" ... The "Vampire of lenses" ... mates with the "Little Red Riding Hood" of digital cameras ...

    Darned near pornographic looking

OMG this combo could become my new BFF. A quick test around the house in near dark conditions shooting at f/.095. Nearly a 100% hit ratio with focusing. Super easy to nail it. No-brainer to hit the focus assist button, fine focus and shoot. Slam-bam, thank you Sony.

Anyone that's worked with a Nocti by the light of the silvery moon can appreciate what a wonder a near 100% focusing hit ratio means.

Very cool to wheel the focus area to the edge, focus and shoot (see blue bottle). Faster than I thought it would be.

Leica NEEDS to do a camera like this with an M mount!!!!!!!!! Full frame would be best. Not an M9 replacement ... leave that alone, a new camera with a CMOS FF capture and live view.

Sony is going to take over the world if they keep this up.

    -Marc

P.S., the Mac Book Air and iPhone 4G aren't mine ... they're the Wifey's ... I'm back in the stone age compared to her.

How many studio lights did it take to makes those reflections in the Lens shot...LOL

Now you get why people like these little cameras with the legacy lenses....nice glass, good focus hit ratio. M9 is still a splendid camera but just imagine an Mxx with the viewfinder set so you could use your nocti like you just did on the Sony screen. That will give you fantastic ergonomics and the hit rate to go with it.

One strobe with a 7' Grid reflector and 5 Honeycomb Grid fired almost straight into the front element gets you that multi-reflection riot effect. Cool huh?

Gimme a Leica M-XX with this feature ... and it's goodbye other stuff.

That Nocti is outside of my budget, but I'm sure tempted by the Voigtlander 35/1.2 and 50/1.1 for when size isn't a concern for me. Cool shots, Marc!

Thanks Douglas ... just goofing around.

RE: Nocti .095 ...If business doesn't pick up really soon, it'll be outside of my budget also.

Very nice Marc and I will repeat what Terri stated ...... NEX + Legacy lenses are a great combo and my personal photographic tool of choice for carry gear today. IMO they are tough or near impossible to beat at their price point to IQ results with good glass. If you already have good RF glass owning a NEX is a no brainer.

Walk softly, and carry a big Noct.

I use the Metabones M adapter, very well made.

Monza, does the lens release on the Metabones not bother you at all? I have that adapter and removed the release completely, because it got in the way of my right hand's fingers. I've since started using the Voigtlander.

Hmm. No, it hasn't bothered me a bit. Although, most of the time I use Contax G lenses. I got the M adapter so I can use some older screw mount glass.

Nononon. The zooming NWYSIWY rangefinder was a horrible misconception - neither the devil of the 'real' rangefinder, nor the deep blue see of the SLR.
Something to use those lovely Contax lenses (and some more lenses) would be fab . . . but hey . . isn't that just what the NEX is?

NOnono, Jono. Not yet. NEX 7 or 11 perhaps would make that happen?

Jono, I still use my Contax G2 and enjoy it greatly. These woes you speak were from dem evil Leica boy's. Dey hate everythin that ain't Leica. I'll take my old kodachome slides out of my Contax G2 with the 21mm against anything Leica M's can produce in the same lens focal length and stand toe to toe with them for thousands of dollars less (and they really hate that). Been there done that many many times ........ most of my photography friends are Leicaites. Now, I have to use Fuji Velvia but it is still a winner.

B&W Leica might have a edge .... color the Contax G's have the edge. Both are great cameras I just wish Contax was still around to keep Leica honest. Every company does better with competition.

Re: Say Hello To My Little Friend!

    Hi Jim
Well. I was always a Contax guy. my first camea was a Contax 139,then there was an RTS II and an RX of course i also had a G1 and then a G2. I never gave Leica a second thought.
I know the G lenses are works of art. But the 'rangefinder' I learned to deal with on the G, and the focus confirmation. IMHO it was all a dreadful Kludge losing both the loose framing of Leica and the precision of good SLR viewfinders. The worst of all possible worlds.
I'd really welcome Contax's resuscitation. And cetainly something to use those lovely G lenses, but please not another G series camera!

I bought the one I'm using from a forum member here ... Kripon ... clicks into place nicely on both ends.

One of the biggest camera screw-ups I ever did was dump an entire duel M6 system and move to two wicked looking black Contax G2s and every lens they made ... only to find that I missed the character and speed of my M lenses, hated the squinty zooming viewfinder, despised the AF, couldn't manually focus the thing to save my life, and the finish came off the camera like it was shoe polish or something. Different strokes for different folks

Can't tell you how cheesed off I was when Kyocera/Contax flipped everyone the finger ... with me holding a "Santa Sack" full of N, N-Digital and 645 gear. Contax can go frig themselves forever

Fortunately, I believe that Kyocera's right to the Contax name has recently run out, so maybe a new company will do a better job.
