Here it is:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=sony+50+1.4&N=0&InitialSearch=yes

I'm just going by the ad, which does not say the hood is included, and does list the hood as a separate item, with its own price. Could just be there for replacement purposes, of course, and I do tend to read literally (what a background in logic sometimes burdens you with!).

what dbogdan says seems more reasonable, though. I can email them and check!

Cheers and thanks

If you look at the lower right corner of the page, you can read:

What's in the Box
Sony SAL-50F14 Normal 50mm f/1.4 Autofocus Lens
55mm Front Lens Cap
Rear Lens Cap
Lens Hood
1-Year Sony U.S.A. Limited Warranty

I have never bought a new Sony lens that hasn't included a hood, or an A fit Zeiss lens either come to think of it.

However I know what you mean Kit about logic and "caveat emptor"!

I now have a 24/2.8, 35/2, 50/1.4, and 100/2.

A850 body arrives tomorrow.

Further thoughts: if I like the way this outfit handles, and I like the images it makes, I am considering selling the D3s and the 24–70.2.8, and buying a D700 for the 14–24 and the 24–PC-E. I can use the 24 PC-E with Live View blindfolded (well, Hoodman Loupe!) on the D700, so this will be no problem at all.

I can sell the D3s and 24–70, and buy the Zeiss 16–35 and 24–70 and have money left over.

In time, I'll sell the 80–200/2.8 AF-S and get the Sony APO 70-200.

The deeper thinking is that there will be and upgraded A850/900; lenses are the key thing, and there will be a compact D700 successor too, for my two favourite Nikkors. Two systems, but different applications, so I think no operational problems.
