    Hi there
Endre - that shadow is a winner
Jthurs - I love the attitude of the Wrestlers (and the outfits), but the tree is even better - looks like some kind of real world mandlebrot set. Excellent.

CoDaQe - the band shot really is excellent

Carl - I'm with Uwe - your cold front shot seems to me to need something else - although I'm not sure that warmer is it either - I feel I can say this because so many of your shots are so fantastic! Please feel free to have a go at me i return!

    all the best

Here are some early morning shots.
The first few are out and about with the 18-200 just before dawn (a chilly -5C run this morning . . brrrrr) - the others are afterwards with the warm early morning light splashing through the kitchen windows and the coffee on the hotplate.

I really like the 2 lanscapes. I also think the warm color one and the b/w would look very good side by side.

    Endre - Tom - thanks for the kind words - one thing I did notice was a very grubby sensor . . . . . . with the 5n

Bad News - it's easy to get a dirty sensor
Good News - it's easy to clean a dirty sensor!

Slightly unsure, is there any mechanism against dust in the 5n?
(DMCG1 was/is quite good in this respect,- no dust on the sensor)

yes - I'm pretty sure there is something - mine had a splurge of olive oil on it (or something similar) . No dust remover will get rid of that!

Hi Bob : Well Melbourne is now moving towards Summer so many pretty sites in the city - I made a few snaps on my way back from a camera store where I picked up a couple of Sony A adaptors ..and couldn't help myself but bouhgt teh last remaining 130/1.8 for a very sweet price

I really like the direction Sony is heading in with these cameras and technology - perfect little street shooters.

    Peter,

    I gave up on the NEX 7 arrival...bought a Richox GXR A12 M ...

Love the Sony color and the 135 ZA is one of the premier lenses ... images so well.

It has been raining non-stop here for a couple of days...will continue as it turns to sleet on Monday.

However I am off to Togo in February for a couple of weeks...so chasing summer - not Melbourne but will have to do for the present.

Keep the post coming...I am sure that I am not the only one here living large vicariously.

Re: Share your best NEX-5N images here

I was digging around in the closet this afternoon and found my Pentacon 6 300/4 lens that hasn't seen the light of day literally in years. So I drug it out, mounted it up on the tripod and hooked up the 5N.

Took a couple of shots of the tree topper my wife made. First shot is the full frame, the second is a slight crop. Both shots from about 18 feet @ f/4.

Shot with the CV 90/3.5 APO-Lanthar

    CV 180/4 APO-Lanthar

They seem to match up pretty well to the NEX sensor.

Uwe - the ford tractor and the pink wood and the brown wood are really great (not sure how much the camera had to do with it though!). Are they with the 18-200?

Chals - really like the window with the photographer . . . his shot will be boring, but yours is not!

Rich - the sunflower is splendid - the other shot is confusing - taken from 10ft or 10miles?

Shac - fishing ports! Newlyn is my favourite, but it's been a year or two. Nice shots

Peter - the girl is splendid - love it . . . . and as for the cheap 135 f1.8 - I had to pay a princess's ransom for mine, so I'm not amused - fantastic lens though.

Hehehe.......ten feet.....but you're right, it attracted me because it looked like a coastal floodplain.

Hi Jono _ I blame you and your infectious enthusiasm for pricking my interest in the Sony cameras. Firstly a confession - I have always loved the look of the A900 files but couuld not see myself ditching all my Nikon gear. So instead I just stopped using all the Nikon gear *Last chance for Nikon is the upcoming D800 - for me anyway - it better be really good or else "see ya later alligator" Compared to the M9 or S2 colour out of the box so to speak the D3 series cameras are ummm - just so ooooooooordinary.

Still I digress - I have to say that the Nex 5N has done enough for me as far as fun factor goes to entice me into buying an A99 as well. I have to say the EVF tech is very impresive and the focus peeking function makes using M lenses easy ! Sony is brave in heading in this direction - I think they have developed a prime mover posiotn in the market through this tech - will be interesting to see how far it goes. I have to decide on wht lenses to get for the A99 which was purchased on the back of how highly I rate the 135 - killer lens so sharp so fast to autofocus and such lovely draw.

    Any advice on lens appreciated.

    Cheers
    Pete

    Hi again,
I was lucky and one sample which had been pre-ordered by someone else got available.
My first impression is very good - even wide open the lens seems to be quite sharp and with a nice contrast. With the hood it is big (if you compare it to m4/3 lenses) - but I find it still handles fine on the Nex 5-n.

Having f1.8 instead of f4 (of the kit lens at same focal length) makes quite a difference.
At f4.0 it seems to be visible sharper and shows more detail in the edges than the kit lens (it better should for the price).
For me it makes sense to have a fast AF lens on the Nex.

Hi Cindy - I haven't tried the WATE on the 5n yet - it certainly looks good.

I love the last two shots - not so keen on the first, but I can certainly see the point.

Tom - that lens doesn't seem to be around here - but I'm in two minds having seen the comparison between it and the 24 'lux on the NEX 7 by MR. 1000 spondoolies is a lot to spend for AF!

Here are some shots from this morning - all with the NEX 5n and the Leica 28-90 R lens:

well, the birds haven't got all the berries . . . yet!

    snoozing ponies on Redgrave Fen

nice bokeh on that lens (this is at f2.8)

Re: Share your best NEX-5N images here

    Hi Jono,
    those images look very rich!
I have to say my feelings about the 28-90 on the Nex are somewhat mixed regading the handling. I am a bit worried to hang so much weight on such small camera.

Regarding 24mm - yes I also saw that comparison between the 24 Zeiss and the 24Lux. I just plan to use the Nex on occasions where I might not want to bring a 5k lens (ok one could say then a 1k lens isnt right as well), for example when goin on bike trips.
Also as nice as focus peaking is I am still not yet so confident in its accurancy.
When manual focusing the M9 is still my system of choice and having AF for the Nex seperates those systems a little more for me.
With the grip the Nex5n works very well even one handed and with the swivel display it encourages to be used lower and higher than eye level.
The bad thing is that I found the kit lens very good in the beginning but comparing it to the Zeiss one gets aware of the weak points of the kit lens.(which I still find pretty good for the price)

Ah well . . .if it breaks it breaks! I tend to carry it by hand with the lens downward . . . or else by the lens.

. . . if you don't like it I might even rescue you (I'd really like one on the A77).

No bike trips for me I still have the beautiful hand made Young's bike which I built in the 70's (the frame was made to fit, then I made the bike up including building the wheels). Unfortunately time is short, and if exercise is on the agenda the dog wants to come too!

When manual focusing the M9 is still my system of choice and having AF for the Nex seperates those systems a little more for me.
Hmmm - well, there's no question that the M9 is still my system of choice when I 'mean it' - but I guess that when I want best AF then I'd tend to use the A77, that might change with the NEX7 and the adapter - not sure yet.

But as for focus peaking - it's not always perfect . . . but then I don't always get it perfect with the M9 . . .and AF isn't always perfect either! But like most MF systems it takes practice to get it right - and like ALL focusing systems there are mistakes. I'm getting as many keepers as I would with anything else I think.

The bad thing is that I found the kit lens very good in the beginning but comparing it to the Zeiss one gets aware of the weak points of the kit lens.(which I still find pretty good for the price)
I think the kit is pretty good - but I usually use the 18-200 if I'm going for a 'one camera one lens' solution - and if I'm taking more than that the kit lens gets left behind then too!

I think the thing about the 28-90 is that it does definitely have a little of that leica 'zing' about it.

    back to work

    have a great Sunday!

    Hi again,
after years of full suspension MTB and road bikes I now use most often a nice handmade steel frame from a guy in Heidelberg (http://germans-cycles.com/03_tour_acid_x1.php) - I love it. It is great for tours, it takes a trailer with 2 kids as well.

...AF...yes, the Nex AF isnt allways perfect ;( I think the main problem is that the AF point is too large)

How good is that 18-200 compared to the Kit zoom?
Overall I believe you are more of a "zoom" guy than I am. I just like fast lenses better - first because of keeping ISO low and second to have the better posibility of subject isolation. And when zoom get an "interesting" speed (f2.8 or like the 28-90) they get pretty big and heavy- fine for DSLRs but IMO not so usefull for a small mirrorless camera.

I wonder how the 28-90 compares to the Zeiss 24-70?

I suppose I could put the dog in a trailer

well - I haven't really compared the 18-200 with the kit zoom - it produces decent results, but it is a bit big.

I haven't compared the 28-90 with the Zeiss 24-70, but I might give it a go when the NEX7 finally appears. The Leica range is more attractive (for me) on APSc (neither is wide enough, so it's nice to have a bit of length). on FF I guess it might be different.
    We'll see!

I bet the dog would like it in the trailer.

Here is one more with the 24/1.8 while cooking dinner. I wish I had a nice gas fired cooking place.

    Hi all

As I am joining this excellent thread only now, I can't comment on every worthwhile picture, and apologise. But, in recent pages, Endre, Joao, Cindy, among others, have impressed me mightily. Well done!

Lovely Tom - just had my supper, but it still looks good.

you don't need a gas fired cooking place . . . . you need an Aga . . .ours was made in 1958 - our modern gas cooker is used for storing magazines, and the microwave for hiding things we don't want our vertically achieved dog to get!

Thanks, Terry! Kind words are always much appreciated in these parts...:-)

Another style, another lens (Leica R 60mm Makro), another location (Tokyo)

I agree with Terry.....nice shot. The ZM18 looks pretty good on the 5N, at least it certainly does in your picture.

I really like the color and there is a certain "relaxing" effect when looking at this image. I really like it!
