    Possible Good News!

SonyAlphaRumors has reported that Sony has converted one of its plants in Chonburi from making car audio to DSLR/NEX production as of last Friday.

This bodes well for Sony making a fairly rapid recovery. Here's hope my NEX-7 will appear in January!

Since weeks I ignore such fakers!

    Re: Possible Good News!

Dpreview reports that Sony USA has confirmed this. No news as to when shipments will resume/start. I called my dealer and he is going to ping his sales rep. Let's see if tentacle #624 knows what tentacle #223 is up to...

Amateur Photographer have a full review in this week's issue.

Their headline is that it is NOT a Leica M9.......it's much better!

So they managed to get their hands one!

Dave, is there any way I can get a PDF of that article? Subscribing to Amateur Photographer here in the US is prohibitively expensive ($261 USD/year).

The AP does have a web site but they don't put their articles on line otherwise they wouldn't sell any magazines! I would be happy to buy a copy for you and send it if you care to send me a PM with your address details etc.?

It would be funny if it turned out to be true! Maybe Argos knows something we don't?

In Greek mythology Argos is a giant with a hundred eyes, who knows?

    Re: Possible Good News!

Funnily enough, when I was desperately looking for an A700 body as a back-up for my A900 for a trip to Botswana last year, I couldn't really find a good used copy in any of the usual haunts but Argos came up as having a brand new one in stock!

It was delivered pronto, it had the latest firmware even though the A700 had been out of production for over a year! A good price too so don't write them off too soon!

Now the A900 rides as backup to my A77!

Got word from two sources that NEX-7 and A77 are in full production mode at the new factory. We should expect shipments "soon".

    Hi Vivek
thank you so much - always the gentleman . . . unfortunately I think that this trip I'll have to head home empty-handed. Hopefully it's arrival in Holland is a precursor to it's arrival in the UK (together with the NEX7 of course!).

    thanks again

There must be some places in the UK where it is available. David Kirkpatrick (Scotland) is using one and gives it a glowing report. He reckons that it will be one of the few lenses that the 36 Mpx A99 when it is available will be able to show to the lens real capability.

Why would he use an "E" lens on an Alpha body, or should i say how?

It is easy to get confused when dealing with two different mounts.

The E-Sonnar 25/1.8 is, of course, different than the ZA Distagon 25/2.

According to the local Sony rep:

"Looks like it will hit our warehouse Dec. 13 and ship shortly after that." (speaking of the 24mm Zeiss E mount.)

NEX-7 is January. Depending on region will depend on when within that month (and maybe early Feb) you will get your camera. Stocks will be very limited so if you want one sooner rather than later I recommend pre-ordering.

    Re: Possible Good News!

This (unfortunate and disastrous floods in Thailand) delay has made this interesting.

I am prepared to wait longer before weighing my options regarding the NEX system.

The LA-EA2 adapter from Sony makes the whole thing very interesting to seriously consider alpha system (Nex and the regular ones) as the system to use.

No, I don't think I was that early on the list. I was trying to resist at first. We all know how stupid and futile that was.

Just checked my PayPal account and it was lower with no explanation, except "pending transaction". The amount was familiar, so i checked my orders on Sony Style. My 24mm f/1.8 is ready to ship tomorrow. Now, I have to wait and see if I'm one of the "select" pre-order customers to get a Nex 7 next week.

    Cheers, Matt

    Re: Possible Good News!

My dealer told me that his buyer had no idea if Sony was going to ship any to it's dealers.

    Re: Possible Good News!

Given the varying rumors, leaks, announcements, lack of, and surfeit, of information, I'll believe I have it when it's in my hand. This is my order status:

    Carl Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 Lens$999.99
    Items:1
Order Status: READY FOR SHIPMENT Estimated Ship Date: 12/09/2011

FYI -- Just received notice from the Sony store (US) that the 24 1.8 I ordered in mid-Oct has shipped and will be delivered Monday.

I advance ordered the NEX 7 from the sony Store, and have not heard from them yet. However, after reading your post, I went to the Sony Store and purchased the Zeiss 24mm f1.8. I had not advane ordered it, but they have some in stock. I received my receipt via email this evening with a note saying they will notify me when it ships (Probably Monday).
    good luck

    Re: Possible Good News!

A couple of people have shown pictures with this lens yesterday on another forum, showing that they had indeed received their copies. I should get mine on Tuesday, if Sony's info is to be believed.
