I'm new here - a hobbyist photographer since my daughter was born in 1974. Now that I'm retired I've decided to see if I could get better at this. My new NEX-7 with the Zeiss 24/1.8 and a Leica Tele-Elmarit 20/2.8 are getting me off my butt and out and around to learn what it can do.

Here are a couple of my first tries.

    Re: Fun with NEX-7

Nex-7 is a real joy to use for long exposures. Works like charm, take exposures as long as you please as long as you activate long exposure noise reduction, otherwise you will find quite a few hot pixels...

@ Jim and Douglas: thanks for that info; I am in Vancouver working right now, and have bookmarked the last couple of pages—LCC will be made when I get home!

I love the CV 12, and I will be very happy to see what it can do on the NEX-7. I have not seen any smearing on Jim's 12/5.6 images, either—great.

@ Eric: love those long exposure images.

    Mazor: Thanks!

I think they claim it's the 'first' Starbucks, since the first was replaced by a condo. All of the tourists get their picture taken in front of it. Here's a photo I took in 1975, of the original 'first' Starbucks, one block to the North.

Thanks! To me, Golden Gate bridge is amazing beyond it's time. It withstands several earthquakes without any damage while the Bay bride and other more modern structures collapse.

    Re: Fun with NEX-7

Wow! That first shot is amazing! Should be their damn album cover! Here's a shot I took with the NEX-7 and the legendary Konica 57mm f/1.2. It's legendary for a reason. A beautiful piece of glass.

And this one is with the 50mm f/1.8 OIS. Also an amazing lens. The color rendition and bokeh are sublime and much more interesting than anything I've seen in a modern, AF lens on any system.

Finally, one with the Zeiss C/Y 50mm f/1.7. I've been using this lens for years now (previously on M43) and still adore it. I'm thinking I'll put it up for sale soon as prices have gone nuts and the Sony 50mm is so good I feel it's a bit redundant. Still sharp as a diamond....

The thing with the NEX-7 that keeps me in awe is just how much headroom I have with every shot. I've pushed and pulled shots to the extreme. Here's an example. Again: ONE SHOT

A few more and I'm done

    Kit lens + NEX-7

After a day in the country side with all those green fields one likes to clear one's mind.
