    Re: Speed booster for NEX

I have the EOS speed booster. The EOS to m42 adapter (random purchase), does allow infinity focus with no trouble. C-Curtagon 35/2.8, Biotar75/1.5, and such (not sure what else I have or tried).

PS: Checked again and it is spot on with no issues. The adapter is eBay# 320951898301. I think I have bought the other adapters (EOS to NikonF, OlympusOM, etc) from the same seller. They work fine for me.

Yes, the 50/1.2 and the 85/2 (1st version) size (both take 49mm filter) and performance can not be beat (btw, Kit, if you are looking for an OM 50/1.2, let me know. I ended up with 2 samples.).

    Re: Speed booster for NEX

Just received a C/Y SB and trying it with my Contax 28 f/2.8 Distagon. Inf focus was way off and couldn't achieve sharp focus past 15-20 feet. I had to rotate the optics about 3/4 of a turn counter clockwise to get inf focus adjusted. Seems to be working properly now, but corners are not as sharp compared to use with a simple C/Y to NEX adapter, but I guess that is to be expected. I'll try the 50 1.8 Planar tomorrow and see if inf focus is still OK or not.

First sample shot of soaking wet garden (been raining for 3 days here). This was at f/8, NEX 6.

A few from the Tamron adaptall 159a. One of the lesser adaptall lenses from the time period, but a decent performer nonetheless. All on the NEX 7 and sooc.

Still raining and still testing the SpeedBooster. Here is a comparison using the Contax C/Y 50mm f/1.7, with and without SB on the NEX 6.

Straight C/Y to NEX adapter, f/1.7 1/10 sec ISO 100.

Metabones SB adapter, f/1.7 1/15 sec ISO 100

Straight C/Y to NEX adapter, f/4 1/30 sec ISO 100

Metabones SB adapter f/4 1/60 sec ISO 100

    Re: Speed booster for NEX

A few more shots from the little Tamron 159a. I am not normally a zoom shooter much preferring to use high quality primes, but shooting this over the last few days has been fun. And has made me seriously consider the purchase of one of the nicer Tamron Adaptall zooms to use on the SB. Like maybe the 17a or 01a.

Anyway, the 159a is a redo of the 59a which is a redo of the 44a. Overall it is a tiny little thing that mates very well size wise with the NEX body. I doubt seriously if there is a smaller 28-70mm zoom lens anywhere in the world. It is the exact same size as my Yaschica ML Macro 55/4. The one stop gain in speed from the SB really brings this lens into the major playing field while giving a very useful zoom range. Its not the sharpest wide open, but a stop or two down and its very usable. Its built in macro function at 70mm is pretty darn useful to boot. Overall not to shabby. Cheap and plasticky to be sure but with some decent glass.

They can be had for literately peanuts.

    Re: Speed booster for NEX

A few more from the Tamron 159a, the little lens that could. My daughter and I went to the park today as part of our fathers day activities. As you can tell, I wasnt terribly concerned with proper exposure. We were really there to have fun, not focus on photography. I just wanted to run the Tamron through a 'shoot what comes as it comes without thinking to much' scenario. Again, not the sharpest lens, but usable. So here is A Study in Swinging in Three Parts, No's 1, 2 and 3. Also, my little girl looking like a gangsta. I dont know what is up with the tongue thing.

    Re: Speed booster for NEX

So I drive out to a local macro spot of mine, mainly just several wooded acres nearby, with the intention of running the little Yashica ML Macro 55/4 through its paces with whatever insects I can find. But right as I park I find two much more interesting subjects parking as well with similar intentions in mind. Except they are not there to photograph bugs. We talk photography and cameras for a while and they let me tag along to shoot with them. Turned out to be a pleasant day after all.

Except for the fact that the only lens I had on me was the little Tessar ML Macro. Oh well, I made do.

Michiel, They are called brass knuckles (Brass knuckles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). In this case, I think, worn like an ornament just like all the piercing stuff to make a statement. Think of it more like the Luigi leather wear for a certain camera line.

    Re: Speed booster for NEX

Well, the 17a arrived. And I have to send it back. Somewhere in its life I think it took a hit or a fall. The front zoom part is not quite on straight. It is ever so slightly tilted, so that when you bring it all the way in it doesnt sit quite flush with the base. Barely noticeable, but its there. I shot a little with it in my home this weekend just to check its optical quality overall without being critical about its flaw. What I see makes me want to replace it with another one. I especially like its close focus ability and small size. Luckily I have a 30 day return policy so I will be using it and looking for another. Or possible the 01a, another great Adaptall Zoom, and an SP to boot.

All pics on the NEX 7 with C/Y speedbooster.

Well the speedbooster post has slowed down some. I must admit to being a bit remiss posting lately so lets see if I can make up for it with some recent shots. We had a really bad heatwave out this way recently and it pretty much kept everyone indoors, myself included.

Thanks Taylor. It was a test shot I did to gauge the light and the shutter speed was way to low. Thus the Mantis is less then sharp. But right after I snapped this he jumped off the fence into the dark bushes. So this was the only shot I had of him. With a little post processing I was able to get at least a somewhat interesting shot out of it.

    Glad you liked it.

Yep, a really great job making something very cool out of a shot that wasn't necessarily what you wanted.

    Hello everybody.
I want to buy an speed booster (the lens turbo without electronics) but having various mount i'm thinking to take the canon ef speed booster and to buy many thins adapters to mount olumpus om, leica r, contax yashica and m42 lenses.

did ou think it's a good choose or i will have infinity focus problem and should adjust the lens of speed booster for each mount ?

    thanks a lot

I have an EF speedbooster from metabones and I have no no infinity focus problems with the contax and nikon lenses I have used with an adapter. Look at Vivek's posts in this thread as has covered a wide range of lenses like you have mentioned.

I never had to adjust mine but I have seen that some people have had to. If you are concerned about the adjustment here is the link about it from metabones Metabones® - Infinity adjustment (Speed Booster

Amazon cancelled the 14mm order claiming it was a mistake! According German laws (if they are registered in Germany!) this can not happen since they listed multiple items with different price tags with a deliberate advertisement. Amazon could be in for a surprise!

    Re: Speed booster for NEX

Hi everyone. Its been a while, lots going on. Thought I would post up some more shots from the speedbooster since for the most part it just stays on my camera.

I know a lot of the recent hype has been around the new A7's from Sony. They are amazing cameras and highly anticipated by many people, myself included. But I find my desire for them much less then I thought it would be. True, they are not currently in my budget, but I simply dont have the great longing for them I would have a year ago at this time. I find my trusty old NEX 7 with the speedbooster to be an effective tool for making photographs. The combo just works. And the extra gain in speed is something I have become quite accustomed to.

So here are some photographs. The first was shot with a Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35/2.8 zebra and showcases the lens that took the rest of the photos shown here. This little Yashica ML 55/4 is just a cracker of a lens. I really do love the images it can produce.
