    A Call for RAWS. A7r

Would love to get my hands on some raws files to play with in C1 which does support it. Anyone out there that has some and like to share that would be great.

Don't know why I can't edit my post, but this link turned out to be a waste of time.

There is a bit of history to that. There is a one day limit to the edit function (for good reasons).

Where did you see that Capture One supports it?

It's not on the list of supported cameras...

The just announced Lightroom 5.3 release candidate supports the A7 and A7R.

Capture One does not recognize the Sony A7r raw files (I have tried).
Iridient, LR5.3 RC and RPP (beta) are already supporting the new Sony's.

Lightroom 5.3 RC do open the A7r raw files, just tested it.
Camera profiles are available in the development tool.

Very nice on my Macbook Air. Will quickly try them on my Eizo screen. Would be great if Sony color and mid tones rendition would again be better than nikon (as for the Alpha 900 vs Nikon D3x files).

Guy, I ran into that problem too, some early Raws I had downloaded were read by C1, but identified as from an NEX 7. I thought it would hold true for all future files until proper camera supports was added, but apparantly it was a pre-production firmware glitch that got ironed out in later media samples.

To tell you the truth, it was probably a good idea that Sony threw a bag over that, because the early Raws looked pretty awful in terms of detail (no detail rather), although the 14-stops DR was there to play with.

Alas the download link to those files is broken and I long since deleted them because it was amusing for only so long. Then again maybe I have a zip in my downloads since I rarely delete stuff from there to my inevitable horror.

Okay thanks I thought I was going crazy as I saw it somewhere but have not tried it. I'll patently wait it out. I would like to get this body but this time I refuse to be the guinea pig. Thats my story and sticking to it. LOL

I'm waiting for someone to try the Leica 19mm R lens and if it works well than I'll jump the fence on it. Like to see a better solution for Nikon G adapters as well.

FYI, the Sony's are already on sale in Korea, so if you feel down for some black market drug dealing, you could import one if they aren't completely sold out already. YouTube video of Sony store in Korea

Barring that, you can be sure that Korean forums will be on fire with image samples and comparisons soon, which sites like SonyAlphaRumors will kindly filter for us westerners and pick out the interesting bits. Luckily pictures are an international language.

Also, the new LA-EA3 & EA4 A-mount adapters are now shipping via B&H.

Guy, I bit the bullet and pre-ordered the A7r. I am so desperate to improve upon my Canon 1Ds Mark III files that I am willing to take a gamble. If I find that there are issues using the 17 & 24 TS lenses (before mine arrives) I will cancel my order.

Some shots I took this evening with the A7R and Leica Macro-Elmarit-R 1:2.8/60 and Leica Vario-Elmarit-R 2.8-4.5/28-90 Asph.

I've put them in a Dropbox folder, hopefully you'll have access ...

    So what's your initial impression?
Will the A7R work with your R lenses well enough?

    Foto Konijnenberg?

I recognize the guy (on the right) in #7 (Well, JAO is in many of the frames). He has sold all his Nikon gear for the A7R.

    Hi there Karl-Heinz,

the A7R works splendidly with my R-glass, no doubt here, which is just as well as I'd already ordered the A7R a while back ...
Admittedly, the UI can be awkward at times, but I'm sure I'll cope and get used to it in the end.
Focusing aids as "Zebra" and "Peaking" are really helpful with manual lenses.
All in all I'm really looking forward to collect my copy.
As a matter of fact I've already got a spare battery and a Novoflex NEX/LER adapter ...
Next purchase will be the battery grip and the battery charger.

    All the very best.

For those of you who don't feel like updating to LR5.3 RC (or upgrading to LR5 at all ), as always, Adobe's DNG Converter includes the latest camera support as well, allowing you to create DNGs that you can then use in your favorite RAW processing software.

Hi Bart, I guessed wrong then. JAO (the guy in your shots)'s shop is (or was when he was a Nikon guy) Konijnenberg.

BTW, I found out with all the shops that claimed a delivery this week, the actual delivery is on the 19th or the 20th just as sony.nl say.

Thanks again Bart. That sounds terrific. I certainly trust your judgment!
Yup, I ordered the grip with the camera as well.
I understand the batteries for NEX-5N and NEX-7 will work in the A7R as well.
If that's true then I already have two chargers and six batteries.
My Novoflex NEX/LER adapter fits those NEXs very well.
Let the fun begin as soon as the A7Rs show up.

As I also got the Leica Vario-Elmarit-R 2.8-4.5/28-90 Asph. let me ask which images did you take with that lens? Thanks.

Thanks for sharing these samples, Bart. Either my D800E is faulty, or we have a real winner on our hands with the A7R...

Edit: sharpen DSC01640.ARW appropriately (60, 0.6, 70 or thereabouts) and you'll see what I mean...

You guys got the 28-90. Thats just not fair. LOL

Awesome lens. I was one of the lucky few that had the famous and rare Leica R 35-70 2.8 lens. That was a sweet lens.

I think about it I would have still had everything in Leica R if they just came out with the S in that R mount. Pisses me off thinking about it now. You have no idea the money i would have saved. I mean 10's of thousands. Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If my memory serves me well and looking at the files the first six are shot with the 60 (first run) and the remaining shots are from the 28-90 (second run).

    Thanks for the samples, Bart.

I downloaded #7 (shot at 1/60s, ISO2000) and looked at it. Not sure if it CA or color moire. There seems to be a lot of it (perfect subjects!)!

    Hi Bart,

I looked with CS6 and Nik at DSC01646.ARW, that was shot with ISO1600.
Also looked at DSC01617.ARW, that was shot with ISO 6400.
Both clean up very nicely. Great stuff.
    Many thanks.

Understood, Bart. I turned off the NR from auto and converted to tiff.

Yours seem to be the only RAW files available from there. JAO just showed a jpg crop: Sony a7R with Samyang 14/2.8 in Nikon F mount, most upper left corner. | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

The link to the Chinese site points to a folder for download: just click on the button at the upper right corner with "...(603.52M)". The folder contains a set each of JPEG and RAW files from Canon 6D (CR2) and Sony A7 (ARW).

C1 Pro 7.1.5 64 bit in Windows 7 opened the CR2 and ARW files without problem. Metadata on the files shows both camera and lens info correctly.

    Hi Bart,

Would it be okay with you if I posted your file(s) that I processed in ACR and Nik as JPGs? Thanks.
    With best regards, K-H.

Thanks for asking permission to post other members images. You make a copyright freak happy. LOL

I always like to ONLY post Images here on GetDPI when I get permission from others myself.

Re: A Call for RAWS. A7r

So, here we go. I took Bart's image DSC01646.ARW and processed it in ACR 8.3.0.122 as follows:

This is the in size reduced image:

Full resolution image is here: Bart's Images - winklers' Photos 4th image: http://winklers.smugmug.com/KHW/Othe...no_Nik_KHW.jpg

Then I went into CS6 and used Nik Dfine 2 and RAW Presharpener with default values.
In Output Sharpener I set Output Sharpening Strength to 20%.
I also used one of the default Curves in CS6.

And this is the resulting in size reduced image:

Full resolution image is here: Bart's Images - winklers' Photos 6th image: http://winklers.smugmug.com/KHW/Othe..._w_Nik_KHW.jpg

Please note, these full resolution images are very large in size.
Also, very high resolution images from D800/E, A7R, and especially the NEX-7 have their own peculiarities with regards to noise.
The FF 36 MP D800/E and A7R would need to have slightly over 57 MP to match the resolution of the APS-C size 24 MP NEX-7 sensor.
    With best regards, K-H.

Re: A Call for RAWS. A7r

FYI just noticed my RAWs do show up in C1 7.1.4 (OSX) ...

Edit: there's one catch though: C1 assigns a NEX-7 profile.

I can tell you are an experienced 800E & NEX PPer and it shows right here. As with all digital cameras there will be a new workflow to get the most out of images, but the work will be well worth it from what I can see.
