    A7r vs A7...focusing

I was about to buy the A7 kit for its faster focusing speed and quieter shutter. However, Shawn Barnette has a very different experience Sony
    Any advice..

I thought that was interesting, too, and it confirmed my choice (A7R). I would imagine that if this is indeed the case, Sony will improve the A7's Hybrid-AF performance via firmware upgrades.

Where is the problem? The kit zoom or the A7?

Vivek, read today's piece over at DPReview -
Shooting with the Sony Alpha 7 and Alpha 7R: Digital Photography Review
It sounds like it is the lens and not the camera I think?

    Can be both.
I wants my A7 to use AF adapter to use my Canon/Nikon gear. I tried a Deo Tech Canon converter using my small Nex5r and the AF is very fast. My guess is that the on sensor phase dentection in 5R helps

Tim, That is exactly what I alluded to.

I am not sure. Only a handful of Sony E lenses can avail the on board PD sensors! Check your manual for compatibility. Also, the camera itself shows whether the PD sensors are being used for a given lens.
