Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

Barry:

Okay so I know the reason (after all, we all are lens addicts here to a greater or lesser extent) but wow!

I just checked it out on Amazon to see what that comes to in dollars:

Price: $6,295.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are a braver man than I. My wife would poison my dinner if I started going that hog wild. But congrats and enjoy. That's a precious jewel you'll have.

Regards,
John

Many thanks John - I have just finished my evening meal but I am now feeling a little queasy...Not sure if it's because of having spent all that money or if Alison added a little something extra!
If you don't hear from me again you know it was the latter :ROTFL: ...Cheers Barry

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

Barry, I could afford this part £5.95 P+P :D

I hope you thoroughly enjoy your new WATE! I'm sure it will be a joy to shoot with.
Many thanks Douglas...Actually I think that is about all I have now left in my bank account   ...Just in case I need to return it!
Cheers Barry

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

Congratulations! Now we're going to see three thousand pounds of WA images!

Somewhat related topic: How about its sibling, the MATE? Not many made, so not much info (but equally stratospheric prices). Has anyone seen/heard how well these work on A7/r? Especially @ 28mm?
Many thanks Kirk...You guessed it, I will probably drive everybody nuts now just uploading WA images....It's what most of us do when getting a new toy - I am no different just a big kid at heart.
Not so interested in the MATE as I like using fast primes to much in those AoV's.
With the Contax 28mm Distagon still sitting in customs together with the Voigtlander 35mm F1.2 and the Sony FE55mm F1.8 I am fairly well covered I like to think.
Thanks again...Cheers Barry

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

I have read that the WATE performs better than the MATE on the A7r, but I don't remember where I read that. I find the WATE too wide for me (I'd prefer something like 18-21-24-28mm). So I'm free from GAS concerning the WATE. I'd like a moderate wa as sharp as the 55mm, don't need a fast one, but I'd like a light one. I'm waiting to see what the announced wa zoom will be, but I fear that it will be too heavy, hence why I hope we will get some moderate wa primes soon (24 or 21 would be perfect for me). We need small lenses, adapted to the philosophy of a light body.
Re: The MATE I have read that recently as well Annna in my research...I totally agree with what you say, I would also gladly swap the 16mm end for a 24/25/28mm focal length....If Sony/Zeiss make this lens later on with decent optics and the exif info relayed back in to the camera, then this Tri-Elmar is going straight to ebay or on the GetDPI boards....But I am just not interested in a 16-35mm having had a couple in the past.
A7R sensor is 24mmx35.9mm if I remember correctly...that's a Diagonal AoV 106° 55' (16mm) all the way to a Diagonal AoV of 63° 20' (35mm) if my maths is correct - That is a very versatile range but just too much of a stretch for my liking...Cheers Barry

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

You will like the lens. I got one 2 years back and never regretted it.

As for the price, at least the P+P was cheap.
Many thanks for that Jaree ;) ...Reassurance (and a stiff drink) is just what I need right now...Cheers Barry

Great picture, Joe. That lens does not disappoint on the A7R, does it?
Thanks Doug. Yes, the WATE is a star with the a7R. Here's another from that afternoon. Historic Yates Mill in Raleigh, recently reopened after repairs. Two months ago the mill pond was nearly empty.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

I have been hanging around all day waiting for the WATE to turn up!
I was just about to give up when I had a knock at the door a couple of hours ago.
I knew that the Fair was in Bodmin town so I snapped a couple of shots off quickly up there...This was the best shot of pretty poor bunch and needed quite a lot of PP.
Cheers Barry

Barry, looks as though one kid doesn't respect your WATE. :ROTFL:
