Sony HVL-F20m Flash Tip of the Day

If you happen to have one of these very small flashes as you know there is no off/on switch to them. To turn the unit off you have to make the flash shoe close which gives the unit a little bit of a L shape to it and makes it hard to slip into a bag pocket or even your back pocket of your pants. What I found you can do to keep the flash as flat as possible for transport is just take one of the two batteries and flip it around and the unit stays off. When you need it just put the battery correct again and your off. Takes a grand total of about 4 seconds to reverse the battery and close the door. Just a little tidbit to make packing easier and maybe protect the hot shoe a little better.

Guy, thanks, but the F20m does turn itself off after a minute, regardless of position. I'm not sure if this is some sort of "standby" mode. Have you noticed battery drainage after the flash has timed out?

The batteries may still drain a bit while on standby. So if you are storing the flash away for a long while, removing the batteries (or reversing them) might be a good idea.
