    Sony FE 16-35/f4

here: (SR5) New leak of the QX1(20MP sensor) and new E-mount lenses (Zeiss 16-35mm costs 1350 Euro). | sonyalpharumors

If this holds true, I'm a bit disappointed on the price side. Unless I've got my math wrong, this would be ~ $1,770 US. Guess we'll see how it actually pans out when it's officially announced.

    no math skills needed.
It will be 1:1, like it always was with rrp prices.

    1350euro = $1350

    Re: Sony FE 16-35/f4

Yes, what mbn said. The Euro price is usually the same as the $US price.

I guess it's about what is expected. The 70-200 is $150 more, but the 24-70 is less. This fits right in the middle. It's a bit surprising they didn't match the Canon version ($1200). Here, apparently, is the Zeiss markup.

Would have loved to have seen a photo or specs. Probably coming at PhotoKina. I really want this lens. End of October, long time to wait for OCD folks like myself.

I have been looking forward to 16-35 since it was announced last May. But, am both anxious and excited. Anxious that I end up with some of the problems I experienced with FE 24-70. Excited of course for a native, extreme wide angle FE option.

Rumors on the US price are that is it the same as the 24-70. In other words, $1200.

Good news for PS/LR users: Adobe has just released Camera Raw 8.7, which includes a profile for the FE 16-35.

Sony Alpha Rumors just posted a link to this Korean review of the 16-35mm.

There are a lot of pictures to look at. I find difficult to judge sharpness, because he shot everything with an A7s, so we don't know how the lens will perform on the more demanding A7r.

What I liked is the low distortion you see on the architecture shots, although we can't know how that is corrected (software or optically).

Agree it looks pretty good. The good news it don't look bad. Corners looked best at around F8. I won't be giving up my canon 17tse for it but for a zoom it looks pretty good so far.

Agree that it seems decent on initial look. I don't think it's landed in the must buy category for me yet though at $1350. I'm kinda hoping Zeiss does a fast and wide Loxia because I rather have a great prime than an above average zoom.

Based on performance of the 24-70 f4 OSS with the A7S vs A7R, performance on the former is no indication whatsoever of performance on the latter. We'll have to keep fingers crossed!

Agreed and the rather average performance of the 24-70 caused me to get rid of mine. Sadly the 35/2.8 FE I got to replace it is better but still right around average to me.

    The examples speak for themselves.
I am very glad that I am the first on the list at my local dealer.
The bokeh is extremely good for Aperture 4.

In combination with my Noctilux, 75 Lux and 135mm Zuiko a nice travel set.

I can not wait - also applies to the next holiday.

Such an important lens for Sony, everything looks pretty good - so far.
Zeiss will doubtless produce one (or probably two) lenses with focal lengths starting with a '2' in Loxia. They are rightly proud of their Distagon and Biogon ranges which dominate the ZE and ZM ranges. Sony users will not miss out and this zoom release date may have something to do with the push back of the WA Loxias in the schedule.

Quite soon, new buyers will not know what lenses to get! At 35mm, they will have the 35/2.8, 35/2L, 35/1.4D and this 16-35 zoom.

Have the Loxia wide angles been pushed back? I haven't heard this. I know the 2/35 was originally intended for 4th quarter of 2014. Has this changed?

My pre-ordered (sony.fi online store) 16-35 still shows November 4 or 5 as delivery date so it looks like these lenses will be rolling out in numbers early next month. I'd say Sony has been quite happy with preorder numbers; since I ordered Sept 16 the price has gone up from 1199 Eur to 1399 in the sony.fi store. Early bird got a nice "discount" in this case, although the price will propably come back down as the production ramps up.

Excellent! Early adopters should be treated as benefactors by everyone. I await your verdict and of course your excellent photos. That focal range will be perfect for many of the photos I look for.

Is it just me, or are the pictures on the review posted by SAR really promising? I am impressed by the close-up sharpness and nice bokeh.

just spreading the news. certain shops is offering HK$1000 off if paid by cash. so 765GBP or 1222USD. Might get one next time i go there

i know, i know, the warranty thing is a age-old problem, certainly not unique to this lens.

EDITED: apparently, japan shops are selling it at even lower price (might be the exchnage rate). 1147USD/718GBP.

Price wise it sounds a bit to good to be true. Both WEX and LCE (who I would trust) show the lens a £1289 + £100 cash back and neither have them in stock. I would be careful as it appears they are importing from Hong Kong so you may have warranty issues in the Uk

Many thanks David, I believe all Panamoz stock is imported as you say.
The prices are generally lower than the UK stock and still include VAT and postage and sometimes a 3 year "Panamoz warranty".
They rate highly on Trustpilot 9.8/10...I have not used them myself but my friends have numerous times without any problems.

Looks like a decent option for landscapers. I think it may be worth waiting on the Sony 28/2+21mm converter if you're like me and need the speed (assuming that lens performs.)

they are hong kong based. they try to minimise the using "hong kong" on the site but it's mentioned once in the Terms and Conditions page.

is that a bit of vignetting upper left? seems a bit off shape for vignetting in landscape mode.(would expect to see more on the vertical edge than the horizontal edge)
also what focal length for that shot?

Assuming the vignetting is from the shade and the shot is zoomed full wide angle: Any filters attached?

    Re: Sony FE 16-35/f4

No filters, vignetting from shade.16 F8 for depth of field. Best aperture seems to be F4, with just slight variations to 11.

LOL, seriously? Laughable that the included shade vignettes at 16mm. Come on, Sony.

I'll probably still buy it though.

Thanks for sharing! Any initial impressions on handling, size?

Looks like you can snag one. Never bought from them myself.

Buy it, that is a wonderful effect. Only, if you want to replicate it, remember to
just avoid to completely rotate the shade when mounting

Free shipping. But then, they list the lens at $50 above MSRP.

I was just about to ask you that!

And, I've done that before as well. Thankfully it was easy to crop out in post production.

Got mine yesterday; took total of 4 pics of Red Bull cans on my desk due to other commitments; those can-closeups looks awesome, I love the rendering . In case others who mainly process their pics in LR need the use the Camera Raw 8.7 RC profile in Lightroom posted instructions on how to "borrow" the profile to LR from ACR on another forum

To use FE 16-35/4 Adobe Profile in Lightroom: Sony Alpha/NEX E-mount Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

Mac users can do the same, google will find instructions on proper file locations.
