    Re: 25mm E-mount lens for $15 (it's a Holga!)

Okay, a few more to show the lens traits. All are in-cam jpegs shot with AWB, auto ISO and full frame A7r, downsized for web. First is a shot of gray pavement showing both falloff and color shifts, no other processing:

Next is a common subject that shows distortion and color shift as well as fall-off. I did add a touch of local contrast to the in-cam jpeg, but net color is out of cam:

Final is one I worked a bit. Cropped square, converted to mono, added some more vignette, added noise and a bit of halation glow for effect:

I am liking this lens a lot, having some fun with it for sure -- thanks Mike!!!

Jack, There is a DSLR version of this (in various colors) in 50mm FL. Might make a good match on the D810 as well?

I may buy one if I get the Nikon Df.

    Your samples are convincing.

    Vivek,

I've seen the SLR model with color filter wheel attached, and it looks interesting. However, I wanted a wider look from a square format, hence my attraction to this particular version. Ideally it would be a tad longer, maybe a 30 or so, but I think this one will end up working pretty well, and actually I find it compelling enough at full frame rectangle as well

nice thread, I have owned one of these holgas for a while, but rarely used it. After reading this thread I may be inspired to mount the holga lens onto my nex once more.

    Re: 25mm E-mount lens for $15 (it's a Holga!)

Tre, After all the banter that went on, I figured out how to convert a DSLR to do what the digital Holga (D750) does. It is too easy (probably will take 5mins and not worth the bother for me).

I have a bit more challenging project (A TC for E mount) at hand. So, that (digital Holga from a D300) is on hold.

I replicated Jack's modification to convert the 25mm Holga lens to full-frame. The results are quite pleasing.

Here's an uncropped frame from the A7R.

Just got the lens a couple minutes ago and did a Jack removal procedure. Little too busy at the moment but hope to mount the lens shortly...

The color fringing is rather extreme, but B&W conversions are very nice.

Hmmm, never noticed before how much Flickr sharpens images. That shot had a nice softness to it, but it's gone in the Flickr hosted version.

Hmm. I should get another one of these lenses in Sony E-mount, I think. I like using the A7 to shoot with oddball things like zone plates, pinholes, etc.

Ah me, always another toy (lens) to acquire. ;-)

Not long at all Cam, this is the finished image after processing it first in C1 then over to PS-CC and Nik. I forgot to add that this was taken with my A7r converted to full spectrum...

Okay, I got one for the Sony A7 too. Thought some might like to see this ... Jack's modification is necessary for full frame.

G and everyone, there are two more discs that can be removed plus the rear baffle for a good measure, resulting in a lens faster than f/4.

Hmm? I see the aperture disc, looks like a bit of work to remove it. Also the baffle. But f/8 is fine, or maybe f/5.6 with the baffle out. I'll play with it like this for a while. It is, after all, a $15 toy to play with. ;-)

It is not the speed enhancement or even the vignetting but the color shifts that is mitigated to a great extent (especially on the A7r) after the removal of the two plastic "discs". Will post a photo soon.

If you can can you post which ones to take out (if you have images of them) as well? I don't have the lens yet but I'm kinda curious now.

The Holga/A7r as a landscape cam...

Green River Overlook, Canyonlands. My son told me to be sure to post this as "#nofilter" but I don't have any idea why. When I asked, he said not to worry, that you'd all know -- ?

Processing was raw to C1, some levels and curves and a little saturation, but main thing was a minus 1.5 stop vignette -- which works surprisingly well! -- then converted to jpeg for web. Anyway, here is the first of possibly several if you like them:

    Re: 25mm E-mount lens for $15 (it's a Holga!)

The reality is I am having more fun with this $15 lens than I can remember ever having with a $1500 lens... One more, again raw through C1 pretty much as shot, then downsized for web. Let me know if you're getting tired of them and I'll stop:

PS: I've just realized mine is pretty heavily decentered. Maybe I should return it?

It's amazing how much sheer joy can come from photography when you let go of being so concerned with the trivia of resolution, contrast, et cetera... :-)

This is why I love Polaroids, pinholes, toy cameras, and all that...

"The Crew" in Moab, doing what they like best -- eating! And the Moab Diner happens to be a favorite. Steve, Bob, Matt, Guy, Bryan and John. Jack and Mitch missing from photo. And no, Matt and Guy do not have massive liver damage, nor are Steve, Bob or John holding their breath for too long -- it's just Holga color at work! AA7r with Holga (full frame) --- and still loving it!

what we were shooting before breakfast -- Turret Arch at Sunrise. This is of course another Holga version:

    Re: 25mm E-mount lens for $15 (it's a Holga!)

I got the 60mm on my a77, reemed out the apature disk or whatever, and it does make it faster and softer, but maybe too much

You can get a wide and Tele adapter for the 60mm, and with my modified lens its way too much XD

I do wonder how well the wide angle would work on the slr mount one, if that's possible by swapping the lens onto the rear of the slr model

Just had to post one more I came across from our recent workshop. This lens is a hoot to shoot with:
