    Pre Order

I had to use Amazon for my pre-order . Apparently B&H puts a full price hold on your credit card. Well excuse me I don't have that, I got stuff to sell first. Pissed me off. No love for poor Pros. LOL

    Re: Pre Order

I'm curious about that too. Apparently Sony store still doesn't have the pre-order page yet. I have Sony reward points and discounts that I would like to put toward this purchase. But for now, I place an order on Amazon.

    Re: Pre Order

Sony here wants full payment for preorders.

Also, it looks like the total taxes went up by 6% to 28%.

    Re: Pre Order

Just to clarify. B&H places a temporary hold on available funds on your credit card. I'm not sure why they bother since it will drop off of your account in a few days. They will charge you upon shipping.

Interesting that Amazon lists approximate shipping around Aug 30th whereas B&H is listing July 28th on the pre-order confirmation. Fingers crossed that we're in the first batch!

Not really but they have been know to get a small initial allotment which they consider the shipping date. I have in fact received a pre-order from B&H well before the Sony online store.

Oh well...pre-order is in and the anticipation starts.

    Re: Pre Order

I've stopped ordering anything from Amazon since they have lost the ability to deliver what I've paid for reliably, securely, and with reasonable tracking or recourse to the shipper.

When I order something, I do it with cash backing whatever payment instrument I use. B&H always puts a hold on the funds, always have, so I just presume that and keep going. They deliver reliably, consistently, and with full tracking enabled.

I actually do. The last few Sony lenses (24-240,35/1.4, and 28/2) have shipped about 1-2 weeks earlier than expected. I think the going timeframe was the first week of August so late July doesn't seem unreasonable.

    Re: Pre Order

I'm in at B&H... I see they don't use BML unless it's now known as PP credit.

Bill me Later always got paid immediately... Which i thought was not so good
but being able to use someone else's money for six months without interest was great!

At any rate shipment by late July will be good.

Oh so you have a REAL job. LOL

    Kidding

Im just a poor slug. LOL

Actual Amazon is far easier on the return and 30 days, more important almost immediate refund. B&H you got 14 days and slow on the refund. I"ll do what I always do as B&H always pops some in on sale during first batch. I can't tell you how many times I did that trick

    Re: Pre Order

BML is PayPal Credit now......... and yes it starts at the time you order... even pre order...... I used it for the Tamron 150-600mm that ended up being released 10 months later than initially stated for A mount .... that sucked I kid you not.

I agree that it's easier to return stuff to Amazon, but they've become very problematic on shipping. I cannot tell them what shipper I want to use ... they set that themselves ... and the last three shipments to my address have been problems because they're using their own local shipper to get the job done. And they suck - no door tags, no contact information, things get dropped into the foyer of the building with no notice, or they're not delivered at all, etc. One time, two days after I'd given up on the purchase and reported it as "not delivered" to Amazon, I see this guy walking in the hall with a big Amazon box taking a drag on some weed...

stoner: "Hey man, you know where number 101 is?"
me: "That's my unit. Is this package for me?"
    stoner: "Must be. Here."
me: "Don't you need me to sign for it?"
    stoner: "Naa, it's cool."
me: "How'd you get into the building?"
stoner: "I followed some dude with a dog in when the door was open."
    me: "I see. ..."

I won't buy from a vendor with such stupid delivery problems, it's not worth the hassle.

I buy from B&H, Adorama, and various others as well as good vendors on Ebay. FedEx, UPS, USPS always deliver properly. Never have as much trouble as I've been having with Amazon.

It is odd. when the Euro was strong, they sold the A7r/7here first. Now the $ is strong they sell it in the U.S. first. The new products aren't listed here and no prices are known.

There is a price announced for Germany : 3'500 €, but for Switzerland, the price is to be fixed. Anyway, these prices (at least here) are always higher than what you get in real life. Only a few brick and mortar shops apply those "advised" prices.

Here is a link to the German press release, Preis ist "unverbindlich" and is indicated near the end of the release :
    http://d20tdhwx2i89n1.cloudfront.net...4sa5vokxou.pdf

On the Swiss release, they state that the price in Euro is for Europa and that the "empfohlene" price for Switzerland will be communicated later. Here you go :

That certainly is a sign of things to come. Sony site here still lists the older A7 cams at pretty exorbitant prices while outside the prices have crashed. Will wait an year before deciding.

I'm anxious to try out the new body, but I always have this weird feeling... like maybe they're still working out some kinks in production over the first few thousand units, so I'll probably hold off until a couple weeks after they start showing up.

Sony might have a good idea of the target market. *If* it so happens that the majority would rarely or never use the video feature on this, how about a camera without that and for a better price? They could even consider making that a playstaion app and ask them to pay the difference.

    Re: Pre Order

I'm going to rent it from lensrentals.com sometime in August or September. I'll be evaluating the AF to see whether it's DSLR level yet. If it is then I'll be selling off my Sony A-850 and some bits and pieces I won't need anymore. Not that they'll be worth much, but gotta make room for the new kit. I probably won't get the A7R II. More interested in an A7S II. But this rental will tell me if the AF technology is now mature. If not then more waiting.

Smart move. I wish the lensrentals folks would open a branch in Europe. If they use Amazon, Apple, Strawbucks, IKEA, etc business models they do not even have to pay any taxes or pay very little.

But these stores are so screwed up the signs where 3 ft apart, don't you think they would notice it. It's brand new too not a open box. My plan actually is have the new A7rIi and keep the A6000 for backup. Sell my A7II.

Reason why is the A7RII really replaces my A7II where the A7r feel short of doing that. So reality is one body is really replacing two and I can put the extra money towards the two Batis lenses.

If the reality here as good as or better than a A6000 than that's huge for AF capabilities

    Re: Pre Order

I have mine on order from Allen's Camera in PA. Been using them for 9 yrs now and they are amazing. Same price as B&H, no tax and free shipping to NY. Often getting the orders in BEFORE the big players. Excellent service - they will call you when the item comes in and you can opt out then if you like, no charges until you confirm you want it and then it arrives at your doorstep the next evening. Couldn't be happier.

I doubt this is a consideration for Sony, based on the interview with their manager that video constraints were an important part of specification.

For € 3.500 this is sure an expensive baby.
Not sure if I am willing to pay the extra € 1.400 compared to the then new A7r.
Anyway not a first buyer this time, I think.

+1 here Michiel. If I post anything about that extra figure you mentioned and what I plan to do with such figure, it would sound negative, so, will not.

I am very happy that the A7R II is here, good on Sony to offer it and look forward to the reports from the talented folks here.

I was going to get one immediately but I decided to wait too.
For the present I have decided to invest in the new Batis 25mm.
