    Bargain 50mm lens - if you've got a Metabones-type adapter

On a whim I decided to check out the new Canon 50mm 1.8 STM lens, which sells for $125 new. Paired with the Metabones Smart adapter it makes a relatively compact normal setup. As usual with the Metabones, the autofocus is slow, but the lens is remarkably good (especially considering its price). It is quite sharp, even wide open, and has decent bokeh.

If you're looking for a cheap normal lens, and you already own an adapter, you might consider it.

I am considering buying the STM 50 but the Metabones IV adapter prices makes it unnecessarily expensive. Sony should subsidize this adapter.

I've heard positive comments about the cheaper autofocus adapters, like the Commlite (though I haven't tried them myself).

Have you tried the pancake STM 40mm f2.8? It is the only full frame STM and a very good sharp quality lens for the price. I still keep mine but sold Canon 50D awhile back. Though, no Metabone adaptor yet as Vivek had said.

Use this combo on an a7r ii, this combo should focus much quicker. Time to upgrade from the a7ii to an a7r ii
