That is how they feed their young. Regurgitation is the process.

Fabulous series, K-H!
Thanks Vivek, much appreciated.
Of course, I didn't notice what was happening while I took the pictures. Then when I processed the images a nice surprise!

Out of the corner of my eye I saw something large and dark zipping by while I also heard from pretty much the same direction typical Raven calls. I had the Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 55 mm F1.8 ZA (SEL55F18Z) lens on my Sony ILCE-9. and managed to get one quick shot before the large bird, actually a Hawk, took off.

Ravens come for the water we set out. They also like the Suet.

Hi there K-H, just a question: when you say F/11 is that the resulting aperture value of the set F/5.6 combined with the 2x TC or did you really stopped down to F/11 and so in effect an aperture of F/22 ?

TIA

Good question Bart. That info is copied from Smugmug.
More or less, I always tend to shoot wide open.
So at 400mm the lens is set at f/5.6.
Smugmug then multiplies by 2x to post the effective f-number of f/11 when the 2x TC is in the loop.

Yesterday was a busy travel day for the migrating Sandhill Cranes - partly cloudy, strong thermals, and a pretty good tail wind. The cranes were flying really high, I could hear them, but only could make out one of their flocks.

Sony ILCE-9 + FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS + 2X Teleconverter @ ISO 640, FOCAL LENGTH 800.0 mm, APERTURE f/11EXPOSURE TIME 0.001s (1/1000)

The cranes are difficult to see in the sky - so I used post-processing to bring them out clearly in the above image.

A distant view of the cranes.

Mountain Bluebird.

What a pretty birdie.

Many thanks.
Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated.
They sure are pretty, with lots of - shall we say - copy variation!
Here is a different Mountain Bluebird (female) image that I have posted before.

Then there are the Eastern or Western Bluebirds. quite different in appearance again.

... and silently lost his hair in the process ?

Nah - that's a silly remark :)o), but an absolutely interesting interview.

A Raven certainly knows how to get conveniently at the food in the Suet Feeder - Break it open and eat on the ground!
