SEL14TC Compatibility?

The SEL14TC is listed as only being compatible with the Sony FE 70-200mm F/2.8 GM OSS and FE 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6 GM OSS. Curious to know why it is is not compatible with the FE 70-200 f4 G. Anyone know the reason?

The front of the Sony teleconverters actually protrudes significantly into the attached lens. Those two lenses were designed with that in mind. (Most lenses have components very near the rear of the lens mount, which would block the TC.)

Mike - thank you for the concise explanation and illustration - most appreciated!

There is plenty of room at the bottom (to paraphrase someone)! This zoom predates the TCs and Sony did not consider any TC use at that time, IMO.

If you remove the baffle in the zoom (will void any warranty!), there is a good chance you will be able to use it with the TCs.

NOTE: the rear baffle in the zoom may actually contribute to the integrity of the lens. Removing it may make it more fragile.
