    Are all SAL lenses scre driven?

    Just curious if they have something similar to USM or SW

    Yes, it's called SSM, I don't know which other lenses have it, but the 70-300 certainly does.

    16-35, 24-70, 70-200, 70-300, 70-400, and 300 2.8 all have SSM

    Screw driven lenses are not inferior to SSM. The long focus throw makes them better for MF. On the A900, I can't see any difference in AF speed with SSM.

    SSM is quieter and uses perhaps slightly finer AF microsteps, but it adds quite a bit to the battery consumption of the camera. SSM is not always faster than screw driven, my 80-200HS-G screwdriven zoom is much faster than the 70-200 SSM for example.
