Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

Guy I thought for sure you'd name this Fun with Sony and cheesburgers!

Here's some sample A7r images from Valley of Fire

Had to craw into this area to get that looks like miniature cliff dwellings. A7r, FE35mm f/6.3 1/160 ISO 125

Finishing a hike out to where they filmed "The Professionals". A7r, FE35mm f/2.8, 1/125 ISO 50

Rokinon FE14mm 1/40 ISO 50 more than likely f/8

One more Rokinon FE14mm 1/40 ISO 50

These cameras cannot be very good. They have been out for weeks now, and only 18 posts in this thread.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

You know what was one of the main things that pushed me over the edge? Seeing a picture of the A7r next to the A1. Finally a camera the correct size for an SLR!
I was never very fond of the A-1 (or most Canons, frankly) but it's about the same size as my favorite Nikon FM/FM2n/FE2 and a little smaller than the F/F2/F3. I never liked any of the pro-line Nikon SLRs when they passed the F3 ... they always felt bloated and over-much to me.

And while the A7 is not that much smaller than the Leicaflex SL, it is probably a quarter the weight. I thought the Nikon F with meter head was a brick ...! :) But I love the Leicaflex SL too.

Quickies from this morning ...

both: Sony A7 + M-Rokkor 40mm f/2, f/2.8

The full-frame photo at the top takes +45 on the vignetting correction in Lens Corrections (LR5.3) to even out the corner illumination at f/2.8. Shooting just a little bit with the M-Rokkor 40, I think it's a much nicer match to the A7 than the Nokton 40 so far. Focusing seems crisper, handling is better, etc.

enjoy!

'soon to be' fun with the Sony A7R...

Look at what the nice man in the brown truck dropped off today:

Ha, the FTn was nothing compared the Argus C3 - which was known everywhere as 'the brick'.
LOL! Yes, it was. But not because of what it weighed ... :)

(My mother loaned me hers, my first 35mm camera experience.)

a7r | Leica Noctilux 1,0/50mm
ISO 10.000!!! 10sec
The sensor is really just incredible. It was pitch black. Only very little light from a window

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

I had that same love for the A-1. The Sony a7R is the first camera I've had since then that feel so 'right'. (coincidentally, they have oddly similar shapes and layouts)
The whole collection of FD lenses seem to work very well on my A7R too. The 20mm f/2.8 is very nice indeed!

Yeah, Guy, in Holland we wouldn't dare this. We are to Calvinistic, but not in Italy where life seems to be one big Opera.
I'll hope to get back there, with the 18mm C/Y Zeiss, before we leave tommorow although we have a full schedule, there is so much to see around here it is mind boggeling.
