Hurricane Isaias arrived here this morning bringing steady rain, but not much wind. Took this shot of Oxalis plant through open door to deck. A7RII with Fringer AF CN-SE adapter and Contax N 100/2.8 Makro-Sonnar.

A few weeks ago we visited friends in Maastricht and in the afternoon they took us to the (now idle) marl quarry and cement plant in the Pietersberg. Part of the area is now open for the public and it's slowly being converted to a nature reserve. They are planning to eventually tear the cement factory down (unfortunately), but at the moment it's still intact and the mixing section is still partly in operation with raw materials that are brought in from other places.

1: The cement factory

2: They really took a big "bite" out of the Pietersberg

3: The "jumping board" (platform overlooking the quarry)

4: In the quarry they created several "humps" to create special places for certain plants and birds

5: More "humps"

6: A pano taken from the "jumping board" (LR stitch of 5 landscape shots, click for larger)

7: A last look at the cement factory when exiting the quarry (vertical LR stitch of 4 landscape shots)

Thanks Jürgen, and I agree, Skye is magical. I will go back one day but first this pandamic needs to be behind us.

Also on Skye, in the area of Sligachan

Delighted to see a female Brown Hairstreak Thecla betulae this afternoon. It is limited to certain areas of southern England and is a 'first' for me. :)

Out & about on a local walk this morning before it became too hot (well that was the idea anyway). Main purpose was to look for hoverflies but the weather seemed to deter them - unlike the bees which were everywhere. Four contrasting photos all taken within about 100m of each other.

Hoverfly Helophilus trivittatus.

Bristol to London express.

Small White butterfly Pieris rapae.

Freight train, freight train, going so slow... ;)

We went to lower treman park with the intention of walking up to the waterfall, but the area had reached the capacity limit so we had to park down below at the picnic and playground area.
