    Re: NY meet July 17th

It would be helpful to me in planning and/or making a lunch reservation to get a count of attendees. So, please post or send me a PM as you decide to attend.

I would still like to attend, but it is still more than a month away! My schedule is usually measured in hours before the meeting....I will definitely give you a few days head's up, but I don't think I can commit to anything right now...

    Re: NY meet July 17th

    Tim

I'm game to go in any time that works for you. If you want to be at Central park at 9:00 we would have to take a train at about 7:00.

My normal train when going into New York is the 9:40. This one always has seats available and gets us to Grand Central at about 10:45. We could then comfortably get downtown for a noon lunch.

The compromise is to take something in between, phone the group to see where they are and join them there.

Let me know what your preference is... I'm okay with whatever you want to do.

    Cheers

    Mike

    Re: NY meet July 17th

Mike: Let's do the 9:40. I imagine the earlier trains will be packed, and now that I'm de-civilized, it might be too much of shock to my system to be tucked in with all those commuters. I'll contact you in advance to finalize the details.

So (as long as Mike agrees) the rest of the group can look for us at the noontime destination.

Thanks again to everyone, and I am psyched to finally meet all of you.

No problem Stuart, it was more a plea to get a general idea and to not get surprised by a larger than expected turnout and have trouble finding the right spot to accommodate the group.

    Terry,
Please count me in and Cynthia too, I am pretty sure that we can make it.
Daughter and grand baby will be flying in the afternoon before, but heck, they are only visiting from Moscow (but will stay for two weeks).
It looks like the Accela gets us in to Penn station at 10:45am if we come down on the 17th, so maybe we can get there the night before. We will work it out.

Well I still have my beloved GRD2
BUT now that I have fallen under the spell of focusing (again in Life)
there can be no comparison between the two
there is a Real Magic.......almost Meditative & Zen to focusing
which is great for a person like me who tends to be all over the place
so really it helps to FOCUS ME as well as the pix

Excellent! The GRD2 and an M8 (on loan it appears). You are well covered then. I think we should all agree to leave the fisheye lenses at home that day.

That reminds me...if I am able to make it and anyone is interested in trying out any of my equipment, I would be happy to bring things along. I have a pretty full set of Leica M and R, as well as some Rollei 6000 stuff...and the Nikon stuff, although I only have 3 lenses for the Nikon.

    Re: NY meet July 17th

That's a generous offer Stuart. This may sound crazy, but I'd love to try a 50mm on my M8. Even just for a few shots to get a feel for it.

Even if you come without a bunch of gear, I hope you can make it.

If we go the the carousel, The D3 ought to come along. Either that or it will be a great M8 focus and timing test.

    Re: NY meet July 17th

    HAPPY DAYS !!!!

    Mr. Noriaki has just emailed......
They are giving me a NEW rd1s / other one defective
It is now on its from JAPAN w/tracking #...woohoooo
so i must be off now to tell him how much I LOVE HIM !!!!!

Do you think I'm NUTS for considering a 21mm Super Angulon F4
love the way it draws / in color can be wild & psychedelic & B&W soft and Beautiful
I realize the vignetting problem (which if used properly can have that early 19th century old photo charm & theres always cropping)
but there is something about it. looked at some flickr shots with it so trippy & NOT the norm. Can purchase for $1099.00 or should I be sensible & buy a 50mm Lux or Sonnar and purchase a 21CV instead
    THOUGHTS PLEASE.......

    Re: NY meet July 17th

I have a very good copy of the CV21. It has been tested by Sean and does not have soft corners which has been an issue with with some copies of this lens. I was going to write that to you the other day. You need to play with 21 before you buy as you will either be guessing the framing or need an external finder. I believe there is a finder that was made with this for the RD1 since the field of view is really about 32mm.

    oops Helen,
    I didn't say congrats!

Terry - count me in. I do have a big week-long event starting on the 20th so I will be working constantly the week prior in preparation but I plan on taking time on the 17th to join everyone unless there is some crisis that day.

    Helen, that is fabulous news.
It seems a bit pathetic, that so many of the good reports of excellent customer service come from companies other than Leica. I think that my name must be on their "other" list.

    Re: NY meet July 17th

    RE Equipment to try:
I have the M8 with an eclectic set of lenses - Zeiss 25/2.8, Leica 35/2 ver. IV, Leica 50/1.5 Summarit, Leica 85/1.5 Summarex. None coded and only have an IR cut filter for the Zeiss 25.

    Also a DMR with 19/2.8, 28/2.8, 35/2, 60/2.8, 80/1.4, 100/2.8, 180/2.8, 2xAPO, and 35-70/4.

Anyone is welcome to try any of this if you desire.

I will most likely bring both cameras and a couple of lenses for each (depending on our final itinerary) but if anyone wants to try anything just let me know and I will surely bring it along.

    Watch out for Helen,
If the RD-1 is anything like the GRDII she brought last time, she will win at all of the quick-draw shots.

    Yes,
The plan on the first post has not changed. I'm glad you posted I had you on my list of possibles and was going to send you a PM in the next couple of days. Lunch is in the meatpacking district at Pastis and I have you in the count for our reservation. If you aren't familiar with the spot we will be meeting in the park, someone can meet you at Grand Central. In addition there are a couple of others coming in from CT but on a later train to meet either just before or at lunch and you could coordinate with them.

I hope we see/meet you there.

    Terry

Gotta love the challenge. I'll keep it somewhat of a surprise for now.

Bolting an anamorphic lens onto your mf back with just some angle iron and a handle in between?
Actually an anamorphic lens is just the thing for NY.

My guess would be Alpa TC, 24mm APO digitar and whatever digital back you are currently using. We'll see how close I am...I have no foreknowledge though! No need to reveal now if I am right....

Well not sure what I will wind up with here . Backorders do NOT make me very happy at all. I have this itch and it needs to be scratched , this could get really dangerous.

Neil: Mike and I will be taking the 9:45 from the Westport station. You're welcome to join us there or we can meet up at Grand Central.

Well if you decide to meet us in the park (9AM) the meeting location is VERY simple. We are meeting in front of Tavern on the Green. It is 100 yards into the park from the corner of 67th and Central Park West.

Also, I will PM people with my cell phone number close to the date. In case someone is running late.
