    Happy End of the World!!!

Some people are into this, some people are not.

The Mayan calendar runs out to the end of the year 2012. Some folks predict worldwide geographic cataclysm, some folks think it is a time of spiritual awakening, some people think a giant meteor will crash into Washington DC and save everyone except the auto unions.

What a lot of people don't know, or overlook, is that the Gregorian calendar, the calendar we use today, is NOT aligned to the Mayan calendar. The Gregorian calendar is behind the Mayan calendar by 4-years. So, 2012 on the Mayan calendar is the same as 2008 on our calendar.

Per the Mayan calendar, time on Earth as we know it will come to an end on the winter equinox this Sunday, Dec 21st, 2008, at 7:04am, EST.

So, while I can still post, HAPPY END OF THE WORLD!!!

Sometimes I suspect that superstition is part of our human DNA - in close proximity to hyperbole. The two traits seem to like each other's company, and certainly between them account for a lot of human misery. -

Still, if the world is indeed going to end - a merry end to all indeed!

I bet Bruce Willis is a part of that plan. Me also thinks that Aeorosmith might have copyrights for the soundtrack

I think in order to be fair, we should allow a little margin for error on the part of the ancients. Therefore, perhaps we should extend the Winter Solstice celebrations for a few more days and party like pagans until the lights go out.

Not that I like being pedantic (well, actually I *love* being pedantic!), but for it to hit DC it would have to be a meteorite, not a meteor...

Re: Happy End of the World!!!

I'm still reserving judgement on the old one's calendar. After all, it would certainly be ironic (or even cosmic) if the end of the world were to arrive on Christmas Day.

Depending on how quickly the end arrives (if it does), I realized that I might not have a chance to post my reactions here in the forum. So just in case, I want to say it's been nice knowing you. Happy eternity in the endless vacuum of space to all of you!

    Guy,

When you say to bring the M8, are you taking into account the possibility of extremely high ambient temps?

Actually, my understanding was that the end of the Mayan calendar, 12-21-20012, is already Gregoran adjusted, so we may have to wait another 4 years before celebrating... Or maybe we're better off partying like crazy for the next 4 years

I have my own concerns about that possibility too. So I downloaded the PS plugin from Nikk called "TransgressionsOut Pro". The deal is that if you pass on before the 30-day trial period expires, you're golden. After that you better pay for the license.

I have four ribs worth of prime rib roasting in the oven.
With my son visiting, I wonder if there will be any left over after dinner?

Re: Happy End of the World!!!

Bob, ironically, I *AM* cooking a prime rib for 9 tomorrow!

I rub it with olive oil, garlic, onion, salt, pepper and paprika, then do 500 degrees at 30 minutes, drop to 200 degrees for about 22 minutes per pound to 125 internal temp for warm rare. Yum!

Of course I stocked up on a nice selection of California Cabs to enjoy with it, and even cached a back-up bottle of Hendricks and an entire bag of Persian cucumbers to keep the cook relaxed during the roasting!

My understanding, and I really don't follow this stuff, is the Mayan calendar was adjusted to fit the Gregorian calendar...until the 4-yr error was discovered a few years ago.

I heard about this month being the end of the calendar on flying saucer radio, aka CoastToCoastAM (George Noory, Art Bell, Ian Punnentt ...). If anyone would know ... But hey, one excuse for a 4-yr party is as good as any other excuse.
