The Island of the Colour Blind

Sanne de Wilde visited the island and wrote an article for the Guardian:

https://www.theguardian.com/artandd...island-of-the-colourblind-pingelap-micronesia

You might recall that the island was first described about 15 years ago by Oliver Sacks. A small population, a genetic mutation and inbreeding led to a place where 10% of the people are 'colour blind'.

The article is headed by one of the author's photographs; it is a false-colour IR view of one of the islands, taken, she said, "with a Nikon fitted with an infrared lens and a colour filter". Some of the comments btl are very Guardianista; throw vitriol first, think later.

One commentator found a video on the Nikon-tutorials website (you might have to expand one of the comment threads to find it):

Getting ?That Shot? | Exploring the ?Island of the Colour Blind? with Sanne De Wilde – Nikon D700 model with a modified infrared sensor | NIKON-TUTORIALS

This does explain how she took the image (and it wasn't with an "infrared lens").

Thanks, Robert.

Difficult to understand what the photographer and the interviewer are up to! :banghead:

Very little understanding of the island people’s color blindness or the extraordinary visual abilities and not much understanding of invisible light photography.

Alternate news at its best?

Many of the comments aren't any better! :(
