    Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera?

Anyone here interested in this camera? What are your thoughts on both prime and zoom lenses for it?

Re: Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera?

    I started this thread - http://www.getdpi.com/forum/video-ca...e-changer.html

While I am mainly a still photographer, I have some interest in video, short movie clips and also making family memorettes - what I call a series of brief clips sown together to form a small story. While I don't need the IQ I'd like it. I had a HiDef canon HV20 for a while, its IQ was very good using mpg on MiniDV but I found getting the file off tape notoriously tedius. The AVCHD type camcorders that i have had lack IQ in a big way IMHO. Too much artifacts and generally poor compared to the HV20.

I have high hopes for the Blackmagic. I have some m43 lenses already so I'm good to go. The 14-45 maybe a good start point. I may jump in, I'd like to see some more samples though!

Well, get in line to get one I ordered mine about 5 minutes after the original announcement. I hope to get it before the end of August but am afraid it might get even more delayed.

I opted out of buying for right now. I am still watching their forum and reports on them with interest.

Re: Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera?

I believe Michael Reichman mentioned in his Olympus E-M1 "rolling user review" last week that a Blackmagic early production review sample had just arrived at home as he was on his way back from France. That says they're "running a bit late but it's on the way" to my ears.

Given my re-investment into Micro-FourThirds and my array of lens adapters for FourThirds, Leica M, Leica R, and Nikon F lenses, if I ever have time to get into more serious video I'll be looking at this camera. ;-)

    Impressive!
    Thanks for sharing.

If I was into video, this would be hard to resist.

WOW! Now, I wonder how this would work on the somewhat larger sensor of my GH3. mmbma, if you're buying this lens, do you have a Panasonic or Olympus m4/3 camera that you could try that out on?

I checked out this lens at the show yesterday. Fantastic build, oozes quality. No play what's so ever on the focus or zoom rings. A little expensive though...

I'm going to put it on the Speed booster and use it on the black magic and my OMD.

Bob, while this looks nice, it would be interesting to see something a bit more challenging, with strong colours and contrast, and not least with more and faster movements.

I just sold the Blackmagic. I could not get used to the soft video it delivers. I now use a GH3 combined with a speedbooster and Nikon glass. Much much nicer IMO.

That answered a question I didn't ask. I'm extremely happy with the GH3 and plan to buy the GH4 as well when monies allow.

Re: Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera?

Every time I see a thread on the Blackmagic it spikes my curiosity about doing some video again. I suspect my current cameras ... both the E-M1 and the A7 ... would do just fine, with the E-M1 having an advantage for hand-held shooting due to its image stabilization system.

But somehow I never find the time to actually do it. I guess when it becomes important enough to me, I will. :-)

Re: Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera?

I mostly do personal video stuff but it just so happened a client wanted me to do some video stuff for them. I did a multiple perspective with the D800 and the GH3. After putting the files through filmconvert they were very similar and easily put together in one short movie.

That was my first commercial video effort, a lot easier than I expected. Practice does have its benefits
