Getting my kit back together again. Wanted to throw a GF2 in my bag along side the GH2's. Black kit with 14mm lens arrived today.
Just spent some time doing the "set-up".
I can already tell that I will not miss the mode dial. The camera seems "clean" without it and accessing the modes is very fast from the screen....actually faster than the dial because I can hold the camera normally with my right hand and simply change the mode with the thumb of my left hand. Very simple.
Almost everything I regularly need is close at hand making my decisions about what to put in the quick menu more difficult.
So, on the back there is direct access to WB, ISO, Drive mode (bracket, burst, timer), AF Type (face detect, single multi).
I set the function button to AE lock. AF lock isn't really needed anymore with the touch focus/touch shutter capability.
With my other Panny's I've found histogram top left works well.
So, for my quick menu right now I've got
AFS/AFC/MF
Metering (Spot/center/multi)
RAW/Jpeg
Flash Settings
Grid Line - style choices
One thing I will have to test out is that MF assist (zoom) seems a little more sluggish to engage. Not sure that it will bother me and perhaps the slight hesitation will actually improve upon the fact that it used to be overly sensitive to the slightest touch of the lens.....regular use needed to assess and say anything more conclusive.
Too dark to start doing much shooting....so more to come.
