Congratulations Jack
Now you can have loads of fun!
Then you can try and work out where it fits in amongst your other gear (the trouble I'm going through right now).
Thanks Jono.
My current thinking is it fills in where a smaller camera like the LX3 doesn't work for me. IOW, a bring-it-everywhere camera that doesn't break my back to carry or the bank if I drop it in the ocean, yet with image quality good enough to hold up at say 15x20 print sizes. So far, I think this camera fits that slot pretty darn well. (But I'll still carry my GRD2 with me everywhere too!)
Will it "replace" an M8 for travel or street? No, don't think so, but it may make a very nice compliment to it in the travel bag, especially with a G1 to M lens adapter
)). And on its own, certainly a notch up form a smaller P&S camera, and a lot less weight and bulk than a larger DSLR. Plus, it's pretty quiet and its diminutive size and flip-out rear LCD make it pretty darn stealthy
.
Will it replace a higher-speed DSLR like the D700 or 50D? Again probably not if you need the framerate or the extra stop or two of ISO. But for the occasional photograph-my-kids-at-a-sporting-event, and maybe get at least two or three keepers, probably.
Will it serve for the occasional Aunt-Edna-birthday-party-shoot better than a smaller P&S? Absolutely.
But it won't fit in a shirt pocket.
Cheers,
