Sorry Woody ..the question is the title. I am just looking for some insights/experience from those that make or have a lab make really large prints. I know many of you make your own large prints up to a certain size..but then if you want it larger you use a lab..like Dale. I haven t done any of this..a 17 x 22 is my largest. Thanks Roger

Here is my advice.
You are a very capable photographer, and have gear galore to make superb images.
If you are really interested in making very large prints, I would suggest you can do it yourself instead of using labs. (Although I would admit that firms like Dale can do wonderful work) My perspective is that printing is one of the many joys of image making and certainly you can afford the price of entry to great printing machines.
I have the Epson 7800 which does a very credible job of making prints with a 24" maximum width. I am now considering getting one of the new generation printers and will probably settle on the 9880 or the 10880 to get both larger prints and the new inksets now available from Epson. Of course I could get labs to do this work but I am kind of set on doing this work myself and believe I can do a pretty good job of matching their work.
maybe you can even have you lovely wife produce one of her new books at a format of 36" wide...........LOL!
Have fun whatever you do and bring the light.
