X1D with external battery?

I am having an impression that with the latest firmware,
I can use external battery (like those for my iPhone) with an USB cable connect with my X1D to supplement the battery inside the camera. It usually dead half day when I go shooting outdoor.

Thanks for sharing in advance.

Cheers,

Not sure if that is a great idea outside.

I have 5 batteries at present ... may add a couple ... but USB with the door open cancels the moisture sealing of the camera.

And I find most USB connections to be dodgy at best ... prone to failure .... the batteries are cheap relative to the body and lenses.

Probably better to invest in a couple more and another charger.

For a couple of years I ran a H3D 38 II back off an external battery through the FW 800 port .... while on an Alpa TC ... talk about obviating any
of the advantage of the small Alpa....
