    DP1M shots
Here are a couple from a Spring Arts Car Show. This is an American past-time.
Reviewing the photos I am supprised looking at 100% all the detail that pops out. I am amused when I see my image in a bumper or hub cap, didn't realize when shooting I was going to be there.

    Re: Sigma DP2 Merrill shots

There are some really mean compression "blocks" in the red parts of the car. You can still see them in the "sRGB" image but not as much as in the one before.

AND: The blocks look different (are at different places) in both of the images. So i really guess it happens when the images are compressed for web.

Next week I am going to try your sharpening package, Uwe and use it for the Speedbooster files. They need a completly different approach then the Sigma files.

All bayer sensors need it. But we also don't know what Sigma calls zero sharpening.

I have to ask... which one has colors more like it really was when you took the pictures?

    Jim,
The one in srgb. The tiff files in ProPhoto looked the same just when converted to 8bit and saved jpg the colors don't render correctly unless converted to profile srgb. Speak of color, I have been shooting sunlight and using color rendering neutral. I tried rendering Neutral, Standard and Vivid on these shots. The Neutral seemed just off, greens didn't look right maybe cyan. Vivid was out there, Standard seemed closer to life, maybe a touch too saturated, but nice for these especially.

    Red-Orange-Blue Cars

Here are Three color Mode renderings, same image processing. See which you like.
I'm still trying to find the optimum exposure with this camera. By camera metering center weighted I am overexposed (200/f8 ISO 100) and have to correct about minium exposure in SPP5.1. These I shot -0.7 compensation on exposure in camera. This one 400/f7.1. In SPP 5.1 I had to use -0.7 exposure.

Here we have a Red Alfa Romeo and a 62 Red Corvette.
I wanted to make it to this local Car show with the Merrill. Pretty known colors: green grass, blue sky, nice blue porti potties the amusment park rides, all the bright cars and the nice cromatic aberations on the hillside .

Some images of the Gardens at Schwetzingen Castle, close to Heidelberg, Germany.
These gardens build from 1742 on by the Prince (Kurfürst) Carl Theodor of Palatinate are a beautiful example of the transition from absolutism to enlightment. They reflect the together and reconciliation of beauty (human spirit) and nature.
They are build with strong symmetry and lots of statues, pavillions and citations.
The castle was used for leisure and hunting. The Prince had his administration in the belonging castles of Heidelberg and later in Mannheim.
Walking through these gardens is pure pleasure and you can still feel the original spirit.
If you want to know more:

I took both DPM's (2 and 3) and will post images from both cams in this and following threads:

    The castle an overview:

The "Circular Buildings" they form with the main buildings a half circle - the garden completes the full circle:

If you are logged in, go to edit on the downside of your post, which is possible for a short time a day or so, copy your url in flickr, click on the square icon with the mountain and paste in there, enter it in the the dialoguebox and it should be there.
Actually it only ads [IMG]url[IMG], so you could type that as well on the beginning and the end.

    Re: Sigma DP2 Merrill shots

I`m not trying to steal this thread but as several forum members now seem to have more than one DP Merrill are others having any thoughts about the SD1M with the new Sigma art lenses? A SD1M with the new 18-35mm f1.8 and 30mm f1.4 art could be quite something. Weight wise, a SD1M with the fast zoom is probably 1.5 kg as compared to about 1.2 kg for three DPMs with a couple of spare batteries, but no other accessories such as OVFs.

It is something I take in serious consideration but mirrorless Full frame is also on the horizon and that is also very tempting as well for me. So, no dicision yet for me.

    Hello all,

Well Iv'e been following this and other threads with much much interest and my DP1 Merrill just arrived! Yeah!!! I have one issue though and no amount of "googling" has helped me. It's in relation to the firmware upgrade, its supposed to be so easy isn't it??

I am unable to access the "root directory" of my SD card for the update via my camera connection to the computer (Mac). So my solution this morning was to to buy a card reader but still unable to access it. I can copy the file onto the card but it is not recognized by the camera as it's not sitting in the correct directory.

So please, can anyone help. I'm quite computer savvy on the whole but this one has blasted me to Northren Australia. I decided to post in the DP2 thread as there are so many competent technicians here.

Many thanks and I will be posting soon!!!

I'm no expert, but I've had no troubles with all this firmware nonsense.

I'd take a few frames on your card, make sure you can process the files in SPP.....then FORMAT in the camera. Then I'd try to connect the camera to the computer with the USB cord, leaving the card in the camera.

    Just an idea....

Just for avoidance of doubt (and I apologise if this is obvious) but the root directory is just the top-level directory of the memory card. So if you format it in the camera, then put it into your computer and open it, you just need to copy the firmware file to that first folder that opens up. If I recall correctly, the firmware download needs to be unzipped first, and in the case of the DP2M it produced two binary files (.bin extension), both of which need to be copied to the memory card. Then you follow the instructions to get the camera to load each file in turn. Good luck!

Thanks Mezzoduomo and Snowy for the feedback. I have tried the suggestions but still no luck. I have formatted the memory card several times. The issue is that I can see the icon on the desktop but have no access it seems to get into the "root directory." I have done exactly as the instructions say and have downloaded the first file to the "Sigma DP1" but it does not show as present on the card when I check the firmware link on the camera. I will sort it out, probably just need a bit more tweaking. Thanks again!

    Re: Sigma DP2 Merrill shots

jasonblake, if you've got a card reader, try to format a card in the camera first, then insert the SD card into the card reader and copy both FW update files (unzipped) to the root directory. Put the card back into the camera and go to the "Meny -> Firmware Update". See if the camera detects the update files. Good luck!

I have only DP2M and did think of SD1M first before the purchase of the DP2 Merrill. Three DP M cameras are more compact, lighter, cheaper than SD1 with matching FD lenses. They allow to shoot when other camera buffer is full, no hassle with lens changes, have perfect lens to sensor combination. When OVF is preferred, I'm sure one already has a DSLR to use in those conditions. SD1M is outdated for its current price.

    Part 4:

    The Temple of Merkur:
A Belvedere build in 1787 as a ruin, a citation of antique temples

    The Temple of Apollon:
You have to go through dark and wet grottos to climb up to the temple and reach the "sun"

Boar and hound, the temple of Apollon in the background, a fountain with haunting scenes
