Re: Fun with the RX-1R II

    Hi Vivek,
I've seen you're selling it all off and have this camera and the Leica MM; just one question, what's your take on a comparison between these two? Working in black and white of course, which is how I use this Sony ...
    Thanks.

Re: Fun with the RX-1R II

Hi, Two very different cameras as you know. *For me*, at the moment, the RX1R II is unmatched by any in color or B&W.

Unlike some grand poobahs who may claim to be catching the "decisive moment", me a rank amateur, like the fast AF of the RX1R II and with the Metro case, is a joy to use for street photography. IQ, unquestionably is far better.

Take it with a handful of salt as I have put my camera on sale.

Untitled by Vivek Iyer, on Flickr

If I (characterized as a "gnat" by the ever so friendly grand poobah here ) can do that anyone can do far far better.

    Back up camera?

    Highly recommended!

Does anyone know why they did not include the option to use the remote commander on the RX1RII ?
I use mine for landscapes and it sure would come in handy.
I don't care for a cable release, or for more bulky after market answers.

    Unfortunately I don't have a smartphone

    Update:
I installed the "touchless shutter" app to my RX1RII.
    It works as described.
Only problem is that you must compose using the rear LCD.
And that is not so good in bright sunlight.
Another thing I discovered is that you can trigger the shutter w an infrared remote in much the same way as you can by waving your hand past the eye sensor.
Handy if you want to stand back a bit before triggering.

Of course! Silly me. That's what I meant!
Well, you're not forced to compose using the LCD, just a two step process activating the touchless shutter after composing with the EVF.
Although I just cover my head with a jacket or cloth to exclude the light while using the LCD much in the way one works landscapes with large format cameras.

Re: Fun with the RX-1R II

Good news if you like to use a ThumbsUp:

Tim Isaac of Match Technical has designed a ThumbsUp for the RX1rII. It fits my medium-size hand just perfectly, and ever-so-much better than the cheap little Chinese one I'd been using.

It has bends so you can reach all the controls – you don't have to rotate it like the ridiculously-priced Sony version.

    Enjoy,

    Kirk

PS, it doesn't appear on the list on the home page of the website, but it's listed here: Help Page

The Northgate Peaks @ Zion NP.
By the way, these are all tripod mounted shot at F11.
1st time I've used the RX1RII w a tripod and tripping the shutter using the remote commander.
    Always shot handheld, triggering manually.
I wanted to see the max resolution under best possible shooting conditions.
The RX1RII seems to punish you on Landscapes when handheld.
I prefer this method if the max. detail is important.

    Thanks. Much appreciated.
Unlike w the A7RII w it's IBIS you can't get away w imperfect technique for Landscapes when using the RX1RII.
That is even true at 100th sec.
You want the very best gotta use a tripod.

Quite so. It maybe small but you have to treat it like a Rolleiflex!

The Tushars are the 3rd highest mountain chain in Utah w Mount Delano (pictured) rising to just over 12,000 feet.

Re: Fun with the RX-1R II

I've been housebound for a week or so, but today my partner took me out for a 'long' four-block walk to the nearest park. She said not to take a camera because I might drop it, butI did what I usually do. I saw one possible picture of light and shadow:
