    Panasonic 100-300mm at 100mm end vs. 45-200mm?

Here's my question. What I'd really like is a 45-150mm f2.8 m/43 lens with autofocus, but that doesn't exist obviously.

I own the 45-200mm lens, which is nice enough. But at 100mm (200mm equivalent), it's already at f4.6 and by 150mm it's at about f5.

I guess the other current alternative then is the Panny 100-300mm. What is the f-stop at 100mm and 150mm on that 100-300mm? Harder question: what is the effective T-stop (a cinema term). F stop refers to the aperture opening. T stop refers to the actual ability to transmit light. Some lenses, at the same aperture, transmit different amounts of light. The differences of light transmission at identical f-stops can be quite substantial, especially with modern zoom lenses.

So will the 100-300mm let me shoot with a higher shutter speed than the 45-200mm at 100mm and 150mm?

Also, how would you compare autofocus, is, and optical performance between the 45-200mm and 100-300mm at around 100mm - 150mm?

    Thanks,

    Howard

Did you ever find an answer to this?

Just did one simple test and as the results were exactly the same I didn't bother trying out other ISO or F values.
The distance between subject (water bottle) and camera stayed fixed.
Please let me know if there's anything specific you like to have checked.

    FWIW: G3 ISO400 F/8.0 Ev0.0 (TRIPOD)
    97mm: 10ms | 147mm: 13ms | 45-200
    100mm: 10ms | 150mm: 13ms | 100-300

    Kind regards.
