Franke & Heideke produced the first twin lens reflex (TLR), the Rolleiflex in 1929. In 1937 they offered the Rolleiflex Automat, a technical breakthrough that defined the modern TLR. The Automat (in various revisions) remained in production for decades and gestated many competitors, none of which captured the finess of the Rolleiflex TLR.
