M240 + 35mm Alt Lens - Manual Coding Tests

I picked up a CV 35mm Color-Skopar recently and was disappointed when the right edge had a lot of magenta bleeding into it. Until someone set me straight and suggested coding the lens as a 28mm. Today I took the CV and the 35mm Perar out for some testing. Not scientific by any means, but I think they show the benefits of coding and which codes seem to work best.

The M 240 was set to a custom white balance as the snow and shade poured a lot of blue into the scene. IS0 320; Aperture Priority mode, +1.3 exposure, handheld. Both lenses shot at the max aperture, 2.5 and 3.5 respectively. RAW exported with no changes from Lightroom 5.7.

Lens name and number, with help from the Leica Lens Codes.

To my eyes, 1., 4. and 6. look the best. The edges are going slightly towards green and there still is a hint of magenta, but compared to uncoded or coded as a 35mm, the results are much better.

Again, 1., 4. and 6., seem the best to me. While not perfect, they have the base balance of color and will need the least correction. I suspect at f/5.6 - 8 the color would improve even more as vignetting lessens.

I notice that in good light (sunlight or cloudy natural light), the AWB works beautifully in my M240 with the Zeiss Planar 50f2. The CV 35f2.5 was much more prone to the fringing and vignetting. I sold it recently after I got the Zeiss 35 f2.8 Biogon. It still produces a magenta fringe and vignetting sometimes. I'm trying to see what manual coding will help but I'm not sure which one to use yet. It's one reason why I like B&W so much ;).

None of the images you linked to appear this morning. That said, I'm collecting notes as I will some day move to the M typ 240... :)

Dang, too late. I just sold the CV 35mm f2.5 on ebay :p.... I could have used any of those codes instead. I like the same ones you did.
Well, I gotta ship the lens tomorrow and I already bought a Zeiss 35 f2.8 ZM Biogon instead. Of course, it has certain issues as well

BTW, marking these un-coded lenses with the coding kit does not work with my M240. A 50 Lux coded lens did work though... And momentarily did the others as well. I wonder what that is all about...

The Zeiss you got is supposed to be stunning. Let me know how you like it and what you end up coding it as.
