Best Medium format system for long exposure?

I have shot long exposures with the Nikon d810 and Sony Rx1rm2. I have an X1D question. Assume one shoots aperture priority which necessitates a several minute exposure. If you step away and return how do you determine if the exposure is complete without handling the camera? Also, are there any other X1D quirks, issues or advice one may offer. Thanks.
So to answer my own question, it appears the rear LCD has a timer which displays how much time is left in the exposure. Very nice.

But now I ask another question. Anyone know the best way to focus on distant stars with the X1D? Thanks.

The rear LCD indeed does have a countdown timer as you mentioned. It also has an options to press a button to finish the exposure if you need to cut it short.

To answer your second question, it's been awhile, but I have just focused on stars just like with any other CMOS-based camera with live view capabilities. Set camera to manual focus, set focus point to an area with bright stars, manually focus with focus magnification using the read LCD and live view. In manual focus mode, you may be able to double tap on the screen where you want to magnifying and focus manually but I forgot off the top of my head and don't have camera in hand.
