A7r, A7r2 - and why I'm keeping both ...

The schematic drawings of the FE 500/4 and FE 600/4 suggest you'd better keep that credit card warmed up :)
Heh heh, typically, the 400 2.8 lenses are heavier than the 500 f4 and only a tad lighter than the 600 f4, so if Sony's future offerings hold true then one could expect their version of the 600 f4 to be only marginally heavier than this new lens. That would be a game changer for many.

I plan to keep this until the new lenses are announced and then possibly sell this for the 600 - or maybe not. A supertele with a fast f2.8 aperture is a very special beast.

Rufous hanging around for a few weeks on his way back from up North to further South. A very territorial feisty Hummingbird.

Sony ILCE-9 + FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS (SEL100400GM) @ ISO 3200, FOCAL LENGTH 400.0 mm, APERTURE f/5.6, EXPOSURE TIME 0.0005s (1/2000).

Perched Rufous watching the Sugar Water Feeder, ready to swoop down whenever another Hummingbird dares to get a sip.

Sony ILCE-9 + FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS + 2X Teleconverter @ ISO 1000, FOCAL LENGTH 800.0 mm, APERTURE f/11, EXPOSURE TIME 0.00313s (1/320).

Hummingbirds in whole or in part always seem to be moving. So choosing an exposure time of 1/320 s @ 800 mm is really pushing ones luck. Therefore many images are more or less slightly or significantly out of focus. However, at 20 FPS one still captures quite a few images that are in focus at the desired relatively low ISO.

Wonderful captures of the Rufous Hummingbirds. I feed Hummingbirds during the summer months but are limited to Ruby's as I am East of the Mississippi River. I have 16 feeders out and go through around a gallon of nectar a day and that will increase when the migration season starts. All Hummingbirds are fascinating......

Great posts......

Many thanks Victor for your feedback, much appreciated.
It seems their migration back south through the Rocky Mountains started early this year. Rufous are visiting our feeders, a neighbor has reported seeing a Calliope hummingbird. Those don’t breed in our area.

Do you have an image of one of your Ruby to share? TIA.

Or it this: Hyles lineata, also known as the 'White-lined Sphinx'.
Many thanks Bart. It sure looks to me like this one.
While I was taking these images I also noticed a hummingbird visiting the same flowers - but I was too slow getting a shot of that hummer. :facesmack:

BTW I like how this ISO 12,800 image came out.

What post would this be, K-H ?
For some reason it takes me to the first page of the "Fun With Sony Cameras" thread ...

I guess it's your reply to Seb's Hummingbird Moth shots: https://www.getdpi.com/forum/sony/9664-fun-sony-cameras.html#post763988
Mmm, the difference seems to be that '-1975' in your URL ... Does my URL work for you ?

Is it because I view the threads with the newest post on top ?
Weird ... :loco: Must be a 'bug' ... :banghead:
