L Bracket for Sony A7R and A7RII

Do the Sony A7r and A7RII use the same arca style L bracket or is each body distinctly different requiring different L brackets?

don't know if you already have/had an A7*-Camera with an l-bracket or not. Assuming you don't have one, just one remark about L-Brackets on the A7-series: most of them block any kind of cable release when used in portrait mode (which imo defeats the purpose of an L-bracket). Some don't bother as they're triggering the camera via IR-shutter or smartphone.

If you want to use a cable release in portrait mode you'll either have to buy a riser (about 100 $, losing a little bit of stability) or a more expensive l-bracket (like the RRS, which can be extended)
