it's worth to give the lens a try, I'd say. Though you have to consider the A6500's 1.5x crop factor and the Elmar's moustache signature.

I had an encounter a couple of times with such a moth, but even with a long lens found it quite difficult to get a good shot.
So, I'm quite intrigued how you managed to get this close without spooking the moths.
