Just 30 years later at the end of the English Civil War The fleeing Royalist garrison razed the main building to stop it falling into the hands of the victorious Paliamentarians as they advanced on the town.

3o years ago the banqueting halls were rescued from dereliction by The Landmark Trust and are available (in normal times) as holiday rentals.

    Shot 5 years ago on a H4D with a 80mm & HTC & 150mm lenses, stitched. Winter image shot on a Canon with a 45mm TS-E.
I'm left wondering: who needs two banqueting halls? Surely one is enough for most people?

I couldn't resist to add this to the mix of images in this thread. I took this 17 years ago with my $8000.00 Canon Ids. A wondrous part of Italy that even at that time was weary of me with my camera. It's rare for me to see current images of this location.

This is the Leviathan of Parsonstown, King's County, Ireland

It was the largest telescope in the world for over 70 years. Parsonstown is now Birr, King's County (after Philip of Spain, the husband of Mary Tudor) is now Co Offaly.

Thanks for the likes! These are mostly "holiday snaps" rather than serious studies, so the quality isn't great.

I was there for the first time in 1960, when the surroundings were unkempt. Ireland is now more aware of its historical heritage, with considerable effort put into the "visitor experience":

This is Legananny Dolmen or Portal Tomb, Co Down, N Ireland. Unusually, the capstone and the supporting stones are very slender. These neolithic megaliths are about 5,000 years old.

Lincoln Center, with the Juilliard School and its dorms in the background. Leica S, 24mm, 2 shot stitch.

It's unfortunately hard to show a very vertical shot. If I make it decently wide, it needs a portrait orientation screen, or view by scrolling. Ah well, here's both!

    Re: Architecture, Buildings, and Structures

Yesterday I visited an interesting structure

The "restored" ruin of the Priory Our lady on the Throne

    Overview

    A7ii + Pentacon 29/2.8

    Crypt and rear wall

    A7Rii + LA-EA4 + Minolta 100/2

With a bench for quiet meditation

    A7Rii + LA-EA4 + Minolta 100/2

The priory is the only publically accessible building (and a protected monument), there's other buildings of the abbey complex that have been further restored and now in use as a private residence.
