The Smoking Camera

Posted this in DPReview. Thought I would include it here:
Had an opportunity to shoot with the X-Pro 1 for about ten days in New York City. Here are a few observations in no particular order.
Never got tired carrying the Xp1, 18, 35 and 60 all day.
Got at least 300 shots from a full battery.
Xp1 is faster focusing than the x100 with the 18 and 35.
Xp1 is not quiet like the x100, but no problem for street shooting.
Xp1 can produce images with a definite wow factor in part because of the 35/1.4.
35/1.4 produces wonderful shallow depth of field and lovely bokeh.
60/2.4 is great for portraits and focuses faster than I expected.
35 is an excellent, fast street photography lens.
18 is fine, but really looking forward to the upcoming 14.
Low light capability is amazing and I shot up to 6400 with no problem.
Camera is unobtrusive except with 60 and its huge hood.
People would stop and ask about the camera - a real ice breaker.
Had several Leica shooters stop and ask about the camera - they were impressed.
Didn't miss the built in flash of the x100, but then I had no need for it.
Didn't miss the ND filter, however, I probably will miss it in sunnier conditions.
Didn't spend much time with in camera settings, just shot RAW and jpg.
Shot aperture priority for the most part.
Exposure was a bit hot so I dialed down about 1/3 to 1 full stop.
Difficult to assess image quality with jogs only, however, they looked great.
The Xp1 will probably replace my D700 for all travel related and fun shooting.
The DSLR still rules for paid shoots and weddings, but the Xp1 closes the gap.
Focusing was never an issue, although I did miss shots I thought I nailed.
Camera hunts in low light, but not unexpected after a few beers in a NYC bar.
Overall, the x100 proved that wonderful images could be obtained from an unobtrusive, small and light camera. The Xp1, along with the stellar optics is capable of producing images with more wow factor than the x100 and comparable to my D700. The Xp1 will give me more flexibility than the superb x100 and unique images and for me, that is a godsend.
